Position Overview

The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) seeks a part-time Communications Coordinator to support digital communications, webinar execution, content delivery, and basic graphic design. This role suits an early-career agricultural communications professional who can manage multiple projects, work independently, and maintain consistent, high-quality messaging across platforms or an experienced professional that desires a part time role with flexibility.


Candidates should have 1 to 2 years of agricultural communications experience and an interest in meat science, the meat industry, or animal protein sectors. Strong writing, editing, organization, and proofreading skills are required.


Education

2 or 4 year degree in Agricultural Communications, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field required.


Key Responsibilities

Digital Communications

  • Draft content across social media, newsletters, and other member communications based on provided direction and source materials.

  • Ensure alignment with AMSA brand voice and standards.

  • Draft publish-ready content with minimal revisions required.

  • Proofread all outgoing communications for accuracy and clarity.


Communications Calendar Management

  • Maintain a communications calendar covering webinars, newsletters, social media campaigns, member announcements, and key AMSA programs including annual conference (RMC), student programs, awards, and elections.

  • Coordinate with staff to collect content and meet deadlines.


Webinar Coordination

  • Set up and test Zoom platform and technical settings

  • Support development of run-of-show

  • Draft and schedule promotional content

  • Manage post-event follow-up communications

  • Edit and prepare webinar recording for distribution

  • Provide day-of webinar technical and moderator support


Product and Course Promotion

  • Develop promotional plans and timelines for AMSA educational and technical resources, online courses, and member tools.

  • Create graphics and messaging for promotion

  • Identify and engage new potential audiences.

  • Track performance and recommend improvements.


Analytics

  • Summarize performance metrics from various channels and platforms and provide recommendations


General Support

  • Assist with special communications projects.

  • Maintain organized digital files, templates, and archives.


Education

2 or 4 year degree in Agricultural Communications, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Agricultural or related communications experience.

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Demonstrable experience developing material of this type including a portfolio or examples.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Familiarity with meat science, meat industry, or animal agriculture preferred.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate scientific research accurately

  • Experience with Canva or Adobe Express or other graphic programs.

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment.

  • Professional communication skills when working with scientists, industry partners, and members.
