Description

Get hands-on experience in agriculture, policy, and government while building the skills and connections to be a future leader in Iowa’s beef industry.

What You'll Do

• Experience a U.S. senator’s office in Washington, D.C.

• Help develop policy briefs, fact sheets and communications

• Attend meetings with constituents, policymakers and industry leaders

• Participate in ICA policy development and industry meetings

• Help communicate Iowa cattle producers’ priorities

• Attend major Iowa and national cattle industry events

• Build a network of agriculture and policy professionals

What You'll Get

• $3,000 Scholarship: Paid directly to your college or institution.

• Paid: Hourly compensation for your internship hours when you return to Ames.

• D.C. Experience: Approximately six weeks working in Washington, D.C.

• Travel & Housing: Housing, hotels, and flights provided as needed. Work mileage and expenses reimbursed.

• Real Connections: Build relationships with policymakers, producers and industry leaders.

• Are a full-time college student (juniors and seniors preferred)

• Are an Iowa resident (preferred)

• Have a strong interest in agriculture and beef cattle

• Communicate well and enjoy meeting new people

• Can manage multiple projects and work independently

• Want to learn more about policy, government, and advocacy

• Have basic knowledge of cattle or livestock

• Are flexible for occasional nights and weekends
