Want to experience some of the biggest livestock shows in the country while gaining hands-on experience with a national breed association? The American Shorthorn Association is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable individual to join our team as a National Show Intern for four major events during the 2026–2027 show season. This short-term internship offers the opportunity to travel with ASA staff, experience national livestock shows

from behind the scenes and gain valuable experience in the beef industry.

October 21–25 | Kansas City, Missouri

North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE)

November 12–17 | Louisville, Kentucky

Cattlemen’s Congress

January 5-10 | Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

National Western Stock Show (NWSS)

January 13–19 | Denver, Colorado

Dates are tentative and may shift slightly based on travel and show schedules. First date represents arrival date. An additional day may be required for travel at the end of each event.

What You’ll Do

No two days at a national show are exactly alike! As part of the ASA team, you’ll jump in wherever needed while gaining a firsthand look at how a national breed association operates at major industry

events.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Assist ASA staff at the Shorthorn booth and help answer questions from members and visitors.

• Manage the daily presentation of the ASA Booth, including promotional material displays, general tidiness, setup and tear-down.

• Keep up with live show results from ringside

  • Enter and update show results in the DigitalBeef Shorthorn Registry

  • Prepare typed show results for Shorthorn Country magazine

• Assist ASA staff with additional show-related needs as they arise

• Represent the American Shorthorn Association professionally throughout each event

Never entered show results before? That’s okay! Prior to your first event, ASA staff will provide training on our results process, including how to enter results in DigitalBeef and prepare results for Shorthorn Country. We’ll make sure you understand the process and are comfortable with what’s expected before you’re asked to do it at a show.

Photography experience is a plus but not required. The intern may occasionally be asked to assist with limited photography needs, but photography will not be the primary focus of this position. Social media experience is a plus but not required. The intern may occasionally be asked to assist with limited social media needs, but this will not be the primary focus of this position.

What You’ll Gain

• Gain hands-on experience with a national beef breed association

• Learn how show results are managed from the show ring to the breed registry and publication

• Learn more about livestock shows, breed records, communications and event operations

• Build relationships and network with breeders, exhibitors and industry professionals

• Travel to multiple major livestock events

• Strengthen your communication, organization and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment

• Explore future career opportunities within the livestock and agricultural industries

This position also has the potential to lead into an ASA summer internship, either through our full-summer internship or our two-week Junior National internship. It’s a great way to get to know our team—and for us to get to know you! ASA Summer internship position is not guaranteed based on participation in this internship.

We’re Looking for Someone Who…

• Is dependable, willing to learn and ready to jump in wherever needed. You don’t have to know everything about Shorthorns, DigitalBeef or breed associations before you arrive. We’ll teach you the processes and programs you need to know. We’re looking for someone who communicates well, pays attention to detail, works well with others and isn’t afraid of busy days.

• A livestock or agricultural background is beneficial, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.

• Travel, lodging and meals associated with the internship are provided. An additional stipend may be available.
