Do you live and breathe breakaway roping? Do you know the athletes, the horses, and the stories shaping this fast-growing discipline? The Equine Network is looking for a dynamic, detail-driven Editor to lead BreakawayRopingJournal.com-the digital home for breakaway roping storytelling, education, and community. As Editor, you'll be the heartbeat of BRJ-driving coverage, shaping brand voice, managing social media, and collaborating across the Western Sports Group. This is a high-output, hands-on editorial role perfect for someone who's as comfortable in the arena as at the keyboard.
What You'll Do
Lead Editorial Coverage: Pitch, report, write, and publish multiple weekly stories about breakaway roping athletes, horses, and major events.
Run the Digital Show: Manage the BRJ website and social channels with sharp SEO instincts, a fast digital pen, and a focus on accuracy.
Grow Our Audience: Drive engagement and visibility on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube through compelling storytelling and community-building.
Collaborate & Create: Work with editors across Western Sports Group - Team Roping Journal, CalfRoping.com, and BarrelRacing.com to coordinate event coverage and cross-brand features.
Be There, Live: Travel to key events to capture on-site stories, photography, and social content that bring the Western world to life.
What You Bring
2–5 years of news writing and reporting experience.
1–3 years of experience managing social media professionally.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or marketing (required).
Deep knowledge of rodeo, breakaway roping, and Western culture.
Proven ability to write fast, clean, and accurate digital content using AP Style.
Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Working familiarity with WordPress, SEO best practices, and digital publishing.
Willingness to travel and occasionally work weekends.
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience with Canva, Photoshop, or Adobe Creative Suite.
Photography or basic video-editing skills.
Experience with podcast production or educational video review.
Familiarity with AI-assisted tools like ChatGPT.
