About the American Simmental Association (ASA)

The American Simmental Association (ASA) is a progressive leader, committed to

advancing the beef industry through innovative genetic improvement, science, data

collection, collaboration, and member services. ASA is also a key partner in International

Genetic Solutions (IGS), a collaborative multi-breed genetic evaluation platform. Together,

ASA and IGS are reshaping how genetic tools are used to drive profitability, sustainability,

and performance across the beef industry.


Position Summary

ASA is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Director of ASA &

IGS Commercial and Industry Operations. This individual will lead ASA’s national and

regional marketing efforts, grow industry engagement, and support initiatives that expand

the reach and value of ASA and IGS services. The Director will represent ASA at prominent

industry events, strengthen relationships with key stakeholders (feedlots, packers, and

industry organizations), and contribute to the strategic direction of ASA’s communications,

outreach, and education efforts.


This is a highly collaborative role designed for someone with deep industry knowledge, a

strong network, and the ability to connect strategy, science, and service in ways that bring

value to ASA’s membership and the larger commercial beef sector.


Key Responsibilities

Brand Representation & Outreach

  • Represent ASA and IGS at key industry gatherings and producer events.

  • Develop strategic partnerships with innovative cattle producers to create enduring

    data channels that support genetic improvement initiatives.

  • Speak on behalf of ASA and IGS at regional, national, and international events.

  • Strengthen relationships with allied industry partners, and key influencers.

  • Support and promote ASA programs including THE – Commercial Options and other

    non-traditional service offerings.


Strategic Planning & Industry Engagement

  • Support and develop strategies that grow ASA’s influence and relevance in the beef industry.

  • Foster relationships with feedlots, packers, and other supply chain stakeholders.

  • Identify creative opportunities and partnerships to enhance phenotypic data reporting and integration.

  • Assist in programs that educate and promote the use of genetic and genomic technologies in commercial operations.


Marketing, Advertising & Communications

  • Lead ASA’s national and regional advertising and promotion strategies.

  • Collaborate with the ASA Communications Team and ASA Publications to shape

    messaging, campaign strategies, and member-facing resources.

  • Contribute to content development for IGS-TV, ASA newsletters, and print/digital

    publications.

  • Engage with outside media partners and marketing firms to increase visibility and

    effectiveness.


Team Collaboration & Leadership

  •  Work closely with other ASA Directors to support cross-functional goals.

  • Provide leadership in youth program development and new outreach initiatives.

  • Engage with ASA’s Communication and Events Team and support trade show

    operations, particularly alongside IGS partners.


Board Support & Governance

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of board meetings, including presenting

    updates and strategic insights as required.

  • Assist assigned Committee Chair(s) and act as staff liaison when called upon.

  • Exceptional communicator capable of translating technical concepts for non-

    technical audiences.

  • Strong relationship-builder with industry, academia, and producer groups.

  • Innovative thinker with sound strategic judgment and execution skills.

  • Team-oriented leader with excellent organizational, time management, and

    interpersonal skills.


Qualifications

  • B.S. in Animal Science or a related field.

  • Strong familiarity with genetic evaluation tools and platforms.

  • Experience in marketing, outreach, or communications in the livestock or ag sector.

  • Expert knowledge of every facet of the beef cattle production system.

  • Willingness to travel regularly for industry events, field visits, and ASA functions.
