Communications Specialist - Oklahoma State University Alumni Association

Stillwater, Oklahoma • Full-Time • Bachelor's Degree Required



Nature of Work:

The Communications Specialist supports the purpose and core values of the Alumni Association by creating compelling content to market the organization's various programs and services. This position is responsible for writing for web, email, social media, print and text, utilizing a variety of voices and methods to speak to the organizations' numerous audiences. They will also be responsible for crafting talking points and scripts for both volunteers and staff. They will help ensure the accomplishment of the department's goals, and that the Alumni Association is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information for all alumni and friends.

 

Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Assist with the implementation and evaluation of marketing and communications plans for all alumni and student programming

  • Create all written content to fulfill the requirements of marketing and communication plans created by the Assistant and Senior directors. This includes content for web, email, social media, print and text.

  • Review and proof both digital and print marketing and communication materials for accuracy, audience voice and brand consistency.

  • Manage the Alumni Association’s social media channels, creating and executing a strategy to promote interactions and growth through timely, engaging content – both scheduled and during events

  • Research and develop profiles of Alumni Association members to celebrate their successes and enhance the brand of the organization and university

  • Assist with the development of news releases and media advisories to bring attention to noteworthy events and achievements by the organization and its alumni networks

  • Manage the script-writing process for all Alumni Association events

  • Collaborate with the alumni and student awards committees to create biographies of all honorees as well as manage the interviews and script development of Hall of Fame induction videos

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Organizational Strategy

  • Assist with the development of strategy for targeted marketing campaigns

  • Help establish and maintain goals and objectives for communications and marketing, while collaborating with the team to successfully accomplishing annual benchmarks

  • Provide excellent customer service to all constituents inquiring about Alumni Association programs and events


Job Competencies and Experience:

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or related field is required.

 

Experience

One to three years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and as a team

  • AP Style knowledge or journalism writing skills is required

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite required

Work Environment:

The position is in an office setting within the OSU Alumni Center. Events and activities may be held outside so there will be some outdoor exposure. Position requires availability to work nights and weekends as determined by event scheduling. Travel may be required in and out of state.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Position needs to be able to transport parcels, packages and other items short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up material

  • Position frequently communicates with staff, and must be able to exchange accurate information

  • Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds
