Summer 2026 AHA/HPI Communications Intern - American Hereford Association

The American Hereford Association (AHA) and Hereford Publications Inc. (HPI), a subsidiary of the AHA, are offering a dynamic communications internship for college sophomores, juniors or seniors to assist the AHA communications team and the Hereford World staff in the production of communication pieces for the Association, Hereford World and Baldy Advantage magazine.


The internship will provide experience in feature writing, social media management, photography, design, videography, event planning, editing and proofing. This comprehensive experience will provide the intern with experience communicating for the Association as well as event coverage for the Hereford World.


The intern will attend the Junior National Hereford Expo (July 4-11, 2026) to assist in covering the event and will travel with the communications team to farms and ranches across the country.


As a member of the AHA communications team, responsibilities include:


  • Assist with social media management and strategy

  • Tell the story of the Hereford breed through digital and written pieces

  • Contribute to planning the AHA Annual Meeting and Educational Forum

  • Complete various design and videography projects


As a Hereford World editorial team member, responsibilities include:

  • Write feature stories to contribute to Hereford World and Baldy Advantage editorial

  • Contribute to editorial research

  • Assist in covering the Junior National Hereford Expo by interviewing sources, capturing photos and writing press releases, blog posts and articles


Applicants must be working toward a degree in agricultural communications, agricultural journalism or a related field. Strong writing and editing skills are required along with knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, AP style and Microsoft Office programs.


This is a paid, 12-week internship spanning from mid-May to mid-August, with specific starting and ending dates depending on the applicant’s availability. The internship will be completed at the AHA headquarters in Kansas City, Mo.
