Job Description: As an urban and small-scale conservation planner and outreach coordinator, you will offer guidance, and technical assistance to landowners, groups, and units of government to develop and apply natural resource conservation programs in urban communities, suggest alternate land uses and treatment, and work with them to consolidate decisions into a conservation plan. You will promote the benefits of soil health, soil testing, urban forestry, native planting, weed and pest control, irrigation, water conservation, and stormwater retention and support EBT utilization at farm stands and farmers markets. You will identify and assess natural resource problems and concerns in urban agricultural operations, such as clean drinking water, food access, and housing issues; then deliver and explain resource conservation plans and USDA Farm Bill program contracts and manage the application of the planned resource management system.
Duties:
Assists with the development of outreach strategies and marketing tools to reach Oklahoma agriculture producers.
Identifies resources and opportunities to implement programming and policy, system, and environmental changes related to accessing USDA resources.
Provides guidance to agencies and organizations on assessment of education needs and on development and delivery of education programs.
Serve as a point person for individuals interested in conservation practices.
Conduct outreach and education to general public and potential producers on conservation practices and urban agriculture.
Work with the NRCS offices and the Oklahoma NRCS Urban Conservationist to develop program priorities and guidelines for urban areas.
Develop and implement an annual work plan to achieve urban conservation goals.
Identify and assess natural resource problems and concerns in urban agricultural operations, such as clean drinking water, food access, and housing issues
Deliver and explain resource conservation plans and Farm Bill program contracts.
Manage the application of the planned resource management system.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree, AND:
12 months experience in community outreach activities or conservation efforts
Working Conditions:
Physical -
Sit for prolonged periods.
Stand for prolonged periods for community events.
Walking on uneven surfaces for on-site farm visits for conservation planning, including taking soil samples.
Environmental -
Standard office environment and on-farm visits outside in weather elements of heat and cold.
Will need to drive to farms across the state of Oklahoma (mileage paid).
