Internship • Summer 2027


Marketing and Communication Intern

May-July | Housing provided | $1500/month pretax

What you'll do

  • Design and proof NJSS publications and materials, including the Exhibitor Folder or Magazine, advertisements, program covers, meal tickets, certificates, and promotional graphics. Must have knowledge of Adobe programs.

  • Create ASA and AJSA social media content, short-form videos, website updates, press materials, articles, event scripts, and sponsor or junior board features.

  • Serve as the primary photographer and video creator during NJSS, share timely event and show-ring highlights, and organize media for future use.

  • Work with the Contest and Education Intern to assemble exhibitor materials, print or laminate staff-created signage and pack supplies for Junior National.


What you'll learn: Build practical skills in agricultural communications, content planning, publication design, social media, event photography, writing, proofreading and project management while creating work for real audiences.


Contest and Education Intern

May-July | Housing provided | $1500/month pretax

What you'll do

  • Organize contest entries, communicate with judges and participants, review rules, set contest orders and prepare scoresheets, rubrics, place cards and other materials.

  • Develop Cattlemen's Written Tests and Quiz Bowl questions, and help coordinate Mentor and Apprentice activities and youth conference materials.

  • Prepare junior board and scholarship voting materials; organize awards; update contest placings, participation records, banquet scripts and other tracking documents.

  • Support contest and exhibitor check-in, community service, exhibitor packet preparation, signage production and packing for Junior National.


What you'll learn: Gain experience in event and contest coordination, professional communication, educational content

development, data tracking, logistics, leadership support and managing detailed projects with firm deadlines.


Junior National Operations Intern

Short term | TWO POSITIONS | Approximately two weeks | $500 stipend | Lodging, travel and NJSS meals provided

What you'll do

  • Join the ASA team during the week before and the week of NJSS to help finish, organize, pack and set up supplies, awards, contest materials, exhibitor materials and signage.

  • Keep up with official show results from ringside and help enter and prepare results for the DigitalBeef Shorthorn Registry and Shorthorn Country magazine.

  • Assist with contest timing, judge transportation, check-in, awards, event transitions, participant direction and other daily show or contest needs.

  • Help with livestock-related needs, including showing calves for the judging contest when requested and when comfortable.

  • Photography is not part of this position.


What you'll learn: See how a national livestock event operates behind the scenes while learning show-results procedures, breed-registry and publication workflows, event logistics, teamwork and problem-solving.Training is provided before results work begins.


All interns will contribute an article to Shorthorn Country, work closely with ASA staff and assist wherever needed. We are looking for dependable, organized team members who communicate well, adapt to changing needs and are comfortable working around livestock. An agricultural or livestock background is preferred.
