Mission/Purpose: Reporting to the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) Chief Strategy Officer, this Media and Communications position will produce content that benefits advocacy efforts and helps NFI meet priorities.
Through stronger legislative, regulatory, and communications advocacy, NFI promotes the health benefits of seafood, builds a stronger defense of aquaculture as a solution to hunger, reduces barriers to exports and imports of safe and nutritious seafood, ensures continued access to the nation’s sustainably managed fisheries, and ensures a level playing field for seafood products.
Result Area: Execute on NFI Digital & Editorial Communications
Job Accountabilities:
Help craft the association’s social media strategy and produce multimedia and editorial content.
Use knowledge and expertise to contribute to effective industry communication campaigns. Identify new opportunities and vehicles to communicate priority narratives for the industry.
Collaboration with other industry and organizational partners.
Success Indicator:
Report quarterly digital analytics.
Measure success of newsletter and multimedia campaigns.
Gauge members awareness of NFI digital resources and campaigns. Produce a weekly video to the membership, members-only podcast, conference video content; and advocacy videos; as well as special campaigns to meet the association’s communications and event strategies.
Result Area: Implement public relations strategies and campaigns for the association
Job Accountabilities:
Together with the CSO, formulate and implement proactive industry public relations efforts.
Craft blogs, press releases, talking points, statements and maintain an image/video library and association brand guidelines.
Collaborate with global communicator stakeholders and partners across the seafood community.
Use knowledge and expertise to develop effective public relation efforts across the association.
Success Indicator:
Maintain and grow the association’s owned content creation capabilities.
Help formulate and coordinate US and global communications efforts for the association.
Result Area: Contribute to improving NFI’s user experiences across digital properties.
Job Accountabilities:
Help develop user experiences that promote and advocate for public affairs priorities.
Create and enhance new and existing user experiences for members, stakeholders and various audience (Hill, media and opinion leaders) segments.
Interface with outside communications consultants.
Success Indicator:
Evaluate analytical progress on NFI web properties.
Enhance the availability of NFI digital resources and materials on web properties.
Updates primary web properties and creates new ones, as needed.
Streamlining access to various content on websites.
Result Area: Supporting Association Success
Job Accountabilities:
Manage NFI Communication Internship Program
Promote opportunities and recruit internship candidates at university programs.
Success Indicator:
Mentor top talent for intern program.
Evaluate success of interns and manage personnel.
Result Area: Direct and implement public affairs strategies and efforts
Job Accountabilities:
Support the association’s advocacy communication vehicles.
Effectively communicate public policy impacts to media, policymakers, regulators, and embassies in order to create change for the seafood industry.
Working with the CSO, support media relations, media monitoring and ongoing communication tactics.
Success Indicator:
Execute advocacy campaigns that move the needle on public policy priorities.
Prepare and produce blogs, press releases, LTEs, Op-eds, counter- adversaries messaging and talking points.
Serve as a spokesperson to the media on public policy issues.
Required Competencies:
Sees opportunity to position seafood as benefit to Americans and global population through aggressive media relations, proactive messaging, as well as timely prepared campaigns and digital resources.
The position will maintain relationships with member companies and members of the media.
Stand as a point of contact and resource to members in regard to digital resources, talking points, and communication vehicles.
Demonstrates strong video/audio editing and production capabilities.
Serves as the primary face/voice of NFI in featured videos.
Has the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Communicates with other staff about mutual needs and ensures others’ needs are met.
Plans and executes in a thoughtful, effective, and organized way.
Writes effectively, confidently, and quickly.
Responds with urgency to immediate opportunities, executes plans vigorously and with flexibility, acts proactively to avoid potential problems, identifies and addresses long-term opportunities.
