Greenhouse Learning Center Internship - OSU Horticulture & Landscape Architecture

The intern must have a relevant knowledge of plants and plant care, must be an effective communicator and be proficient in time management. Applicants must be physically capable of greenhouse work, able to carry plants and 50-pound bags of soil or fertilizer, and capable of making routine repairs.


The schedule will be open for negotiation based on class schedule, up to 15 hours per week (preferred). Work shifts will be between 8am – 4pm, Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend work to check and water plants for no more than 90 min per day. Horticulture majors or minors are preferred, along with those who have relevant nursery, landscape or greenhouse work experience.


The Greenhouse Learning Center is the teaching greenhouse for the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. It serves as classroom and lab for 7 to 10 courses per semester, comprised mainly of HORT and PASS classes. The staff here maintain the facility and the surrounding grounds. The intern will be expected to assist in that maintenance.


The intern will be responsible for several projects in and out of the greenhouse. Some examples will be management and operation of the composting system, designing and implementing an outdoor garden bed, assisting in managing and coordinating greenhouse staff, and learning the basic control systems of the greenhouse. Employees are expected to work independently as well as part of a team. The intern will need to assist the greenhouse manager in finding projects and tasks for the staff to work on. The GLC is a fun and interesting place to work with a variety of experiences and challenges for its employees.
