Director of Youth and Amateur - American Paint Horse Association

Full-Time • Ft Worth, TX • Closes December 13


Develop programs and direct planning and implementation of activities that will directly enhance the full benefit of the Association to the individual youth and amateur member. To assist APHA management in proactively evaluating and fulfilling youth and amateur member needs. Further, the Director of youth and Amateur Activities will also research current trends and determine effective recruitment and retention strategies. Also assists with direct planning and implementation of show events and activities in the Performance awards program.  


Essential Duties & Functions


General    

  • Coordinate all aspects of the American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) and all related Youth activities and Amateur Program.


  • Analyze Youth and Amateur membership needs and develop strategies for member recruitment and expansion.


  •  Coordinate marketing and advertising efforts in relation to the Youth and Amateur programs, including website updates.


  • Maximize the self-service functions of youth and amateur enrollment and program functionality.


  • Communicate Youth and Amateur rules, policies and procedural changes to members.


  • Serve as the staff coordinate to the APHA Amateur and Youth Committees. Oversee all rules, regulations and policies pertaining to Youth and Amateur Programs. This may include evaluating courses of conduct, interpreting rules and recommending action to be taken after considering the various possibilities. Prepare reports for the Youth and Amateur Committee and Executive Committee as needed.


  • Serve as Director of Youth and Amateur Activities at all state and national show events and functions.


  • Act as liaison between the AjPHA Board of Directors/Officers and the Youth Committee. Supervise all aspects of the AjPHA Board of Directors. Supervise nomination, election and tabulation  of AjPHA Director elections. Oversee AjPHA Executive Committee elections, activities, meetings and travel.


  • Coordinate all activities involving the AjPHA National Convention (officer & director participation, agenda, rule change proposals, speakers, elections, etc.).


  • Coordinate AjPHA banquet including tickets, awards, food, location, video, script, entertainment, sponsor/staff/special visitor attendance and recognition and banquet program. 


  • Coordinate Youth program fundraisers.

 

Special Emphasis

  • Respond to telephone, mail and email requests as it relates to the Youth and Amateur Programs and other department programs.


  • Assist with coordination of marketing & advertising efforts for department programs and activities – compile and submit information for monthly PHJ ads, news stories, press releases, show programs, premium books, etc. with Marketing Department & PHJ staff. Assist with editing of this material.


  • Assist in the coordination of the World Championship Shows and other major events hosted by the Association. Duties may include but are not limited to: youth judging contest, youth team tournament, etc. with special emphasis on automating these efforts.


Other

  • Competition department general customer service and correspondence.


  • Assist Director of Judges Shows and Education with departmental projects and events.


  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Judges Shows and Education.


  • This job description will be amended from time to time based upon experience and tenure with the Association. Adjustments may occur as related to work load, staff size and Association trends.


 

Position Requirements

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with members, directors and staff.

  • Must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of members, directors and staff in a logical and professional manner.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills.

  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.

  • Must have strong computer skills, i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point, AS400, Outlook.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Must be able to work with a diverse group of people.

 


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Equine Science, Marketing, Public Relations or other related field is preferred.

  • One to two years related experience or training preferred.

  • Horse show/competition background preferred.

 


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to speak and hear.

  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel frequently.

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms frequently.

  • Ability to sit for long periods.

  • Ability to stand and walk occasionally.

  • Ability to see small numbers and figures and work for extended periods on computer.

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds continuously and up to 25 pounds occasionally.

 


Work Environment

  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers).

  • Light employee traffic.

  • Exposure to heat and/or cold temperatures at shows.

  • Exposure to dust and dirt at shows.

  • Exposure to animals at shows.
