Director of Strategic Storytelling - McFarland Productions

Full-Time Remote


Description Overview

The Director of Strategic Storytelling supports the execution and management of brand communication, content development, and narrative alignment across platforms. Brand messaging, campaign storytelling, and client-facing content are completed on time, meet quality standards, and align with company or departmental goals. The Director of Strategic Storytelling reports to the President and oversees the Social Media Coordinator to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.


This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, creative execution, and administrative organization. It’s best suited for someone who is an excellent visual, verbal, and auditory communicator, deadline-driven, detail-oriented, and deeply collaborative. Success in this role means contributing to brand consistency, audience engagement, team alignment, and measurable growth across content marketing channels. 


The Director of Strategic Storytelling is expected to manage strategy functions and oversee larger initiatives like campaign development and brand messaging frameworks. 


Key Responsibilities

This is the overarching goal/purpose of this position, not individual tasks.

  • Lead the implementation of cohesive brand stories across digital and traditional channels.

  • Partner with the content team to translate business objectives into powerful storytelling strategies.

  • Contribute strategically to storyboarding and narrative development for client videos, ensuring alignment with brand voice, campaign goals, and audience needs.

  • Drive email marketing strategy and execution, including specialty and drip campaigns, to nurture audience engagement and support growth initiatives.

  • Lead the development of marketing copy across formats for websites, blogs, product descriptions, SEO-optimized pages, and campaign assets.

  • Direct influencer, UGC, affiliate, and brand collaboration efforts to enhance brand reach, credibility, and engagement.


Daily: 

  • Strategic collaboration with the Executive team regarding both in-house and client marketing strategy

  • Support the content team with strategic guidance, copy refinement, and creative alignment to ensure high-quality outputs.

  • Collaborate with team members on content creation, approvals, and publishing.

  • Oversee editorial calendars, reviewing timelines and deliverables.


Weekly:

  • Lead content team meetings and brainstorming sessions.

  • Provide feedback to writers, designers, and the social media team.

  • Review analytics across platforms (e.g., website, email, social media) to monitor content performance and audience engagement.

  • Identify and coordinate influencer and brand collaboration opportunities that align with client goals and storytelling strategies.

  • McFarland Minutes Podcast copy editing and posting to all platforms


Monthly:

  • Review and refine key messaging frameworks.

  • Develop monthly blogs for McFarland Productions and client blogs

  • Create and schedule monthly and mid-month email newsletters for McFarland Productions and clients. 

  • Collaborate with the Social Media Coordinator to ensure content is repurposed effectively across platforms.

  • Create and manage specialty drip email campaigns to nurture audience engagement and support specific promotions, product launches, or brand initiatives.


Quarterly:

  • Audit content for brand consistency and strategic alignment.

  • Lead strategy sessions for upcoming campaigns or initiatives.

Travel:

Be open to the possibility of travel as projects require. 


Must-Have:

  • Fully remote position. Applicant must be a resident of Oregon, Texas, Florida, or Connecticut.

  • 5+ years of experience

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong understanding of marketing and social strategic planning

  • Personal or professional experience in agriculture, western lifestyle, western sports or outdoor industries


Would Like to Have:

  • Experience in events, product manufacturers/makers, retailers, non-profits, etc. 

  • Agency experience preferred.
