Director of Communications - Red Angus Association of America

Full-Time • Denver, CO • Closes November 21


POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Communications leads strategic messaging and outreach for Red Angus Association of America, promoting beef production, sustainability, and consumer education. This role oversees internal and external communications, media relations, content development, and stakeholder engagement to advance the Association’s industry reputation and visibility.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Duties)

Strategic Communications & Planning (35%)

Develop and oversee integrated communication strategies that align with Association goals, including messaging for industry advocacy, consumer education, and sustainability.


Content Creation & Media Relations (30%)

Lead development of monthly magazine, press releases, newsletters, social media, video content, and educational materials. Manage media outreach, interviews, and crisis communications.


Team Leadership & Project Oversight (20%)

Supervise communications staff and vendors. Coordinate cross-functional projects with all departments (i.e., member services, breed improvement, juniors, marketing, and foundation. Monitor performance and adjust strategies.


Stakeholder Engagement & Representation (10%)

Serve as spokesperson and liaison at industry events, conferences, and community forums. Build relationships with producers, consumers, journalists, and agricultural partners.


Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned (5%)

Perform other related duties as needed to support organizational priorities, respond to emerging needs, or contribute to cross-functional initiatives.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Industry Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of all segments of the beef industry.

  • Leadership & Team Building: Experience managing remote teams and fostering a collaborative, result-driven culture.

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Ability to plan and execute complex initiatives with budget oversight and measurable outcomes.

  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills tailored to diverse audiences.

  • Time & Priority Management: Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Results Orientation: Self-motivated and action-oriented with a proven track record of delivering results.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic communications, preferably in agriculture or food systems.

  • Proven success in media outreach, brand management, and digital communications.

  • Familiarity with beef production, sustainability issues, and agricultural policy.

  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.

  • Commitment to the mission, values, long-term goals, and strategic goals of RAAA.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS*

This position requires:

  • Sitting and Standing: Spending extended periods of time sitting at a desk or in meetings. Occasional standing may be required during presentations, discussions, or meetings.

  • Walking: The ability to walk within the office or plant environments to conduct research, assessments, or meetings with team members or stakeholders.

  • Lifting: The ability to occasionally lift and carry lightweight items such as documents, equipment, or tools up to 25 lbs.

  • Vision: Ability to view computer monitors, read and analyze data, reports, and documents.

  • Hearing: The ability to participate in meetings, discussions, and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

  • Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity to use office equipment, computers, and other tools or software applications.

  • Travel: Ability to travel regularly by car and/or air, including outside normal office hours, is required.
