Creative Media Assistant (Intern) - Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST)

Paid • Part-Time • Remote

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) is a nonprofit organization that brings together leading scientists, educators, and industry professionals to communicate credible, science-based information about food, agriculture, and the environment. CAST’s mission—“Science that feeds tomorrow”—guides our work in publications, podcasts, videos, student programs, and digital outreach.

The Creative Media Assistant supports CAST’s Communications team in producing engaging multimedia content that amplifies our mission and programs. This internship offers hands-on experience in digital storytelling, visual design, and multimedia production across CAST’s platforms—including social media, website, newsletters, podcasts, webinars, and video projects.

You’ll work closely with CAST’s Director of Marketing and Communications and Digital Media Assistant to bring creative ideas to life and help shape how CAST communicates science to diverse audiences.

We strongly encourage students pursuing degrees in agriculture with an emphasis, minor, or track in agricultural communications to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with graphic design and layout for social media, newsletters, and digital campaigns (using Canva or Adobe tools).

  • Support video and audio editing for CAST’s podcast and video series (e.g., CAST Pulse Podcast, Ask the Expert, and CAST Studio projects).

  • Help design and edit short-form videos and reels for CAST’s social channels.

  • Contribute to branding and visual storytelling efforts for CAST’s events, publications, and programs.

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining the digital media archive (images, logos, videos, templates).

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions for creative campaigns and content planning.

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent visuals and messaging for CAST initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program in agriculture or an agriculture-related field, with an emphasis, minor, or track in Agricultural Communications.

  • Basic proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, or After Effects), or equivalent tools.

  • Experience or interest in video editing (CapCut, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, or Descript preferred).

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube).

  • Strong attention to detail, creativity, and ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Interest in science, agriculture, or nonprofit communications is a plus—but not required.

What You’ll Gain

  • Real-world experience creating multimedia assets for a national science communication organization.

  • Mentorship from CAST’s communications professionals.

  • Portfolio-building opportunities across video, design, and brand storytelling.

  • Flexible remote schedule and professional development opportunities.

Compensation

This is a paid internship; hourly rate commensurate with experience and university requirements.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
