Creative Content & Editorial Specialist - American Hereford Association

Full-Time Kansas City, MO


The American Hereford Association (AHA) is seeking a full-time Creative Content and Editorial Specialist to join its team in Kansas City, Mo. This position is part of Hereford Publications Inc. (HPI), the publishing division of AHA, which produces the Hereford World and Baldy Advantage magazines, sale catalogs, directories, and other printed and digital media.


The role involves supporting routine editorial and production tasks, along with additional projects created by the HPI team. This individual will also play a key role in managing and developing content for HPI’s social media and digital platforms.


The Creative Content and Editorial Specialist reports directly to the Production Manager and the Executive Editor, overseen by the Director of Seedstock Marketing.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with the editors to set visual style of the publication, making sure it adheres to the branding of HPI and AHA.

  • Design layouts for the Hereford World and Baldy Advantage and other AHA or HPI projects.

  • Post the monthly issues and articles of the Hereford World and Baldy Advantage on the AHA website in a flip and PDF format by the beginning of each month and convert print layouts to digital formats. Will also assist in posting sale books to the AHA website.

  • Serve as a resource for inquiries requesting editorial photos or articles from HPI.

  • Format sale and show reports and national sale results for the Hereford World.

  • Manage the archiving process for Hereford World and Baldy Advantage editorial.

  • Work with the editorial team to update content and design/layout the AHA’s Annual Hereford Handbook (May), Annual Report (Sept.) and the Annual Meeting Preview (Oct.).

  • Work with the editors to update the Hereford World stylebook when necessary.

  • Contribute to the production of projects as needed.

  • Collect and post sale dates on the AHA website calendar.

  • Assist in taking subscription phone calls.

  • Facilitate HPI’s social media content, digital ads and banner ads with the creative services coordinator.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to envision and guide projects from concept to final product.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, fostering effective collaboration with team members and clients.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and execute projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud, with a focus or knowledge on InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator and Meta Business Suite.


Education and experience:

  • Bachelors or Associate Degree in journalism, communications, graphic arts and/or other applicable fields, or equivalent work experience.

  • Must have general knowledge in the beef cattle or agriculture industries.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be resourceful, proactive and achieve team goals in a timeline oriented team environment.

  • Experienced in leveraging InDesign style sheets and master pages for efficient, consistent design.

  • Bonus: Certifications in digital marketing, SEO, content strategy or social media.
