About this Position
The communications and media relations specialist in the Office of Communications and Marketing for OSU Agriculture is a professional who is skilled at written communications, media relations and strategic editorial planning. They work closely with other staff in the office to promote and OSU Agriculture within the OSU community, state, region and country.
Responsibilities:
Develop written communications, including news articles, media advisories and special projects.
Distribute content to media.
Contribute to media relations efforts via interacting with local, state and national media and arranging interviews, media monitoring, reporting and education.
Assist with strategic communications and editorial planning and ensure message consistency across channels and platforms.
Proofread publications for grammar and usage consistency.
Utilize strategic public relations efforts to enhance the visibility and reputation of OSU Agriculture among all stakeholders.
Maintain thorough knowledge of individual assignments, related schedules and deadlines.
Meet with university partners as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's journalism, mass communication, agricultural communications, English, public relations (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
One year of experience in writing, reporting, AP style writing, copy editing, digital storytelling, media relations or related skills.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
Oklahoma driver’s license or ability to obtain an Oklahoma driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
Proficient in AP news and feature writing, copy editing, story development and media relations.
Ability to write clearly and concisely, effectively manage multiple assignments, deliver with accuracy and on deadline.
Must learn quickly and adapt to changing environments.
Able to interface with media monitoring platform to quantify media mentions of OSU Agriculture.
Should possess a high level of technological proficiency to support digital tools and platforms effectively.
Possess excellent organizational skills, be able to visualize concepts, communicate and interpret goals and effectively deal with multiple contacts or stakeholders for projects.
Demonstrate creativity, knowledge of communications and aligning content with audience needs.
Able to work cross-functionally with supervisor, other writers in the department, OSU Agriculture faculty and staff, and campus partners to meet goals.
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communications and presentation skills are required.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work independently on projects and contribute to project team efforts are required. This position requires a high level of internal and external public contact.
Prefer knowledge of graphic design, Adobe Cloud and production agriculture.
Working knowledge of artificial intelligence platforms and capacities a plus.
