Bovine Veterinarian Editorial Leader - Farm Journal

Remote

Farm Journal maps the present and future of farming, food, technology, and sustainability through the lens of 23 brands committed to every major agriculture and food production segment. Our brands generate 20 million monthly interactions across digital, video, radio and print sources. Farmers, ranchers, growers, packers, shippers, and the industries that support them rely on Farm Journal brands to grow their businesses profitably.

In the beef, pork and dairy cattle industries, Farm Journal operates industry leading digital brands including BovineVetOnline.com, DairyHerd.com, Drovers.com and PorkBusiness.com. Those are accompanied by related events and print publications including MILK Business Quarterly and the MILK Business Conference; Drovers; Dairy Herd Management; Bovine Veterinarian and PORK. It also publishes exclusive research and data insights so powerful that it earned Farm Journal recognition as one of the most innovative companies in the country, according to Fast Company business magazine.

Farm Journal seeks an editorial leader to serve bovine veterinarians and the industry that supports them by cutting through the noise and helping them make the best decisions possible.

Large-animal veterinarians play a critical role in agriculture and face a critical moment in our country. There are veterinarian shortages in more than 200 rural areas in 47 different states. More than half of veterinarians report working well beyond a standard 40-hour workweek. New technologies, drugs and medical devices are coming into the market. Also, universities regularly publish fresh research on the best ways to care for large animals.

The Bovine Veterinarian Editorial Leader will help make sense of it all on behalf of the community they serve. This person will write agenda-setting stories and deliver specific insights for large-animal veterinarians and the ranchers and producers caring for their own animals.

Some days this will require handling breaking news in their industry. Other days it means developing original enterprise stories no one else is reporting. The Bovine Veterinarian Editorial Leader will also contribute to Farm Journal’s broadcast products, such as AgDay and AgriTalk; take part in Farm Journal events and be on-site report from other major industry conferences; and develop social media and other digital content.

Journalists at Farm Journal are not measured by how many “clicks” they get. Instead, the focus is on how well we support the specific audiences we serve and have an impact in their professional lives.

Successful Farm Journal journalists come from diverse backgrounds: from journalism, agriculture or other professional careers related to livestock and farming. Many have “deep roots and dirty boots,” meaning they live on or have come from families who operate active ranches and farms.

If you care deeply about this industry and want to contribute to it by reporting on the business, we want to hear from you.
