Vice President of Corporate Communications - UNFI

Are you a strategic leader who is passionate about inspiring others, with a background in building and executing a 360 plan for internal and external communications?  Join UNFI as our Vice President of Corporate Communications, helping us bring all channels together into one cohesive strategy.


This role will lead the creation and execution of an overarching company communications strategy that is closely aligned with business objectives and is integrated and consistently articulated across all platforms. The Vice President leads teams that include internal and external communications, customer and supplier communications support, video and digital content creation, and media relations. With the internal audience, the Vice President oversees communications to approximately 30,000 associates, across all internal audience segments.


Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:  

  • Accountable for the strategy, design, development, and implementation of internal and external communications.

  • Leads strategy to ensure continual improvement of internal communication processes, utilizing publications, portals, speeches and presentations, video and meeting production, satellite broadcasts, briefing and background packets, and company collateral material.

  • Creates and implements a proactive digital integration strategy, identifying unique opportunities to favorably position UNFI with customers and suppliers.

  • Develops and manages an effective crisis and issues management program, proactively signaling the organization when unexpected scenarios can potentially be disruptive to the organization.

  • Designs and develops processes and standards to monitor and analyze communications campaigns and efforts effectively.

  • Consults with business leaders to develop company-wide internal communication strategies to support key business initiatives and events.

  • Ensures strategies and processes are in place so associates are consistently and efficiently receiving the information needed to make the best decisions for our customers and company.

  • Builds a culture of trust and engagement as reflected in the annual engagement survey. 

  • Establishes and manages budget.

  • Ensures tools are in place to measure the effectiveness of all communications vehicles.

  • Leads communication strategies to support and safeguard the company’s public reputation.

  • Ensures strategies are in place to develop credibility and create a favorable public image for the company.

  • Develops and maintains lines of communication with media contacts and other external audience groups.

  • Leads enterprise efforts in community involvement and public service.

 

Job Requirements:   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Journalism or Public Relations or related field.  Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in corporate communications.

  • Strong leadership and teambuilding skills with the ability to influence and energize a team.

  • Experience overseeing teams responsible for building and executing strategies for both internal and external communications.

  • Knowledge of and experience with desktop publishing systems.

  • Ability to deliver effective and persuasive presentations to a variety of key audiences, including senior management, the Board of Directors, associates, and public groups.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, previous experience developing written materials, which clearly and concisely showcase the Company and possess proficiency for editing.

  • Ability to represent the Company's interests to the public and with media, and comfortable with live or taped television or radio appearances.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively at all levels of the Company and to develop professional relationships with the media, business groups, etc. 

  • Ability to develop, manage and deliver complex project plans, always meeting compressed deadlines.

  • Ability to work well under pressure.
