USDA Summer Internship Program

Closes March 2

The USDA Internship Program is a public service and leadership development experience that offers a unique opportunity to gain meaningful professional skills while contributing to the Department’s mission. The program is designed to mentor and empower today’s young leaders, deepen their understanding of federal service, and prepare them for future careers in public service, agriculture, science, policy, and community development.

USDA leadership and staff are committed to providing young professionals with opportunities to grow, serve, and make a tangible impact. Through hands‑on assignments and guided mentorship, interns develop practical skills that support both their academic goals and long‑term career aspirations.

Each year, a select group of students and recent graduates from across the country dedicate their time, talent, and passion to advancing USDA’s work. These interns become part of the USDA team, contributing to projects that may include conducting research, supporting program operations, analyzing data, drafting communications, assisting with outreach efforts, and participating in stakeholder engagement.

While day‑to‑day responsibilities vary by mission area and office, all interns participate in department‑wide programming, including lunch and learns featuring USDA leaders and subject‑matter experts.
