Purpose

The future of Iowa’s beef business is dependent on the ability to transform today’s up and coming generation to the leaders of tomorrow. The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association has created a summer internship program to provide students an opportunity to become involved in the cattle industry, as well as provide the knowledge and experience needed to become young industry leaders in the area of policy influence. This internship is made possible by an investment from the Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation.


Internship Objectives

  • Observe and participate in the functions of an agricultural trade organization such as policy committee meetings and industry working group meetings

  • Learn how elected representatives represent their constituents, which include cattle producers

  • Learn about the key industry leaders shaping the future of agriculture and the beef cattle industry

  • Experience working for a U.S. senator in D.C.

  • Gain experience sharing producer information and priorities with elected officials

  • Build a network of cattle industry professionals to use in career searching post-graduation
