Rodeo Historical Society and Rodeo Engagement Manager - National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Position Summary

The Rodeo Historical Society (RHS) and Rodeo Engagement Manager will provide strategy, coordination and execution for the Museum’s Rodeo Historical Society and engagement with the national rodeo partners. This position primarily generates funding through membership sales and special events. The ideal candidate needs to have proven experience with rodeo, raising funds, membership programs and event management experience. This position will be responsible for working closely and creating relationships with local and regional rodeo associations and events, their leadership, patrons and participants to increase awareness of the National Rodeo Hall of Fame located inside the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and increase revenue for the Rodeo Hall of Fame awards. This role involves business development, relationship management, community engagement and travel to meet with and connect with the rodeos.


This position will be working in the office at the Museum in Oklahoma City 75% of the time, with travel to rodeos, etc. 25% of the time.


Key Responsibilities:

Development & Business Growth:

  • Develops, manages and nurtures a pipeline of opportunities. 

  • Sources new leads through proactive outreach, referrals, industry events and other channels.

  • Develops and nurtures relationships with rodeo leadership regionally and nationally.

  • This position ensures the Rodeo Historical Society reaches its membership and event fundraising goals.

  • Works with the Membership Manager and Manger of Donor Services to ensure correct and timely society gift entry and recognition, membership renewals and the organization of all records.


Marketing:

  • Manages the production and distribution of all RHS Member printed communication, such as Newsletter, Invitations, etc. by coordinating the efforts with the Museum’s Marketing, Graphics and Event Teams.

  • Plan and execute an annual fundraising and RHS membership strategy to include direct mail, digital, personal proposals, and events. Work with Marketing to ensure timely updates to and distribution of Society webpages, social media accounts and e-blasts.

  • Develop effective and persuasive fundraising materials that articulate the mission and programs with a strong case for support and attendance.

 

Event Management:

  • The Manager of RHS and Rodeo Engagement will serve as the liaison for the Rodeo Historical Society Board and the Museum’s Rodeo Committee

  • Plan and execute the annual Rodeo Hall of Fame Ballot process and liaison with the inductees

  • Participate in the event planning and execution of Rodeo Hall of Fame induction weekend. This will be in collaboration with the Manger of Museum Events to collectively plan and execute all aspects of this Black-Tie Dinner and Awards.

  • Secure live auction items and execute the auction during Rodeo Hall of Fame weekend


Collaboration: 

  • Participate in weekly team meetings, providing insights into connections made.

  • Work with the Sr. Director of Events and Programming to prepare and maintain all revenue and expense budgets; generate reports and respond to inquiries regarding event sponsorships and membership sales by the Museum’s leadership team.

 

Community Involvement: 

  • Actively engage with local rodeos and community events to promote the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, National Rodeo Hall of Fame, and the Rodeo Historical Society and to foster relationships to engage and support the rodeo industry. 

  • Represents the Museum at local fairs, expos, and other community gatherings to support and engage with the regional rodeo community.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with the rodeo industry

  • Event Experience, preferred

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends based on events

  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License (within 6 months of hire date).
