What is OOS?

Opportunity Orange Scholars (OOS) is a non-degree seeking, academic certificate program for students with intellectual disability. The program is designed for young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 who have intellectual disability and who desire to advance the knowledge and skills necessary for competitive employment and interdependent living in their communities. Each semester, the program hires a team of undergraduate students to partner with our OOS students as they live, learn, work, and play on campus.


Position Description:

Residential Partners (RPs) support OOS students in successfully experiencing inclusion and belonging in their residential settings on campus and in successfully developing the skills necessary to live an interdependent life. Those selected for this position must exhibit exceptional skills in time management, teamwork, adaptability, and leadership and be willing to live on campus during their time of employment. Residential Partners must have experience living on the Stillwater campus for at least two (2) semesters and have an academic status of Sophomore or higher at the time of employment. Residential Partners must possess a 2.5 GPA at the time of application and hire. While employed with OOS, a GPA of 2.5 must be maintained. RPs must also have a passion for campus living and residential community involvement. Residential Partners will help to establish a positive, supportive, and inclusive living and learning environment for all OOS students.

 

Specific Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Support OOS students in engaging in desired Residential Life activities and events.

  •  Encourage OOS students to develop independent living and learning skills.

  • Attend residential hall meetings to stay up to date on campus activities and building updates.

  • Support OOS students by holding weekly one-on-one meetings to discuss any needs related to housing, engagement, scheduling, interdependent living goals, etc.

  • Lead/organize at least ONE (1) SEMINAR PER SEMESTER on topics relevant to independent living.

  • Maintain clear, organized, and timely documentation of residential support provided.

  • Attend all pertinent OOS staff meetings and training.

  • Be reasonably available by telephone in the evening hours and on weekends to serve as an initial contact for OOS students.

  • Develop a weekly personal schedule to be shared with OOS team members (i.e., faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate partners) and OOS students.
