Term: August 1 – December 15, 2025
Location: Remote (with opportunity for in-person meetings in Oklahoma City)
Reports to: Director of Policy
Hours: Flexible, approximately 10–15 hours per week (adjustable based on course credit requirements)
Compensation: Unpaid (course credit available)
Overview: The National Deer Association (NDA) is seeking a Policy Communications Intern to support our policy and advocacy efforts through compelling, mission-driven content. This position is ideal for a self-starter with strong writing and digital media skills, and a passion for conservation and public policy. The intern will contribute to outreach campaigns that promote sound wildlife management, with an emphasis on public education and policy engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Director of Policy to develop and implement social media strategies that advance NDA’s policy goals.
Write and edit digital content including blog posts, social media captions, newsletter blurbs, and press releases.
Assist in the production and editing of short videos for social media and digital campaigns.
Design visual content using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to support policy-related messaging.
Monitor current conservation policy issues, particularly those relevant to deer management, hunting access, habitat, and state/national legislation.
Track performance of communication efforts and contribute ideas for engagement improvements.
Participate in bi-weekly check-ins but manage day-to-day tasks independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience creating and managing social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn)
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and basic video production/editing tools
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects
Interest in conservation policy and natural resource management
Background or interest in hunting, wildlife, or outdoor recreation is a plus
Enrolled in or recently graduated from a college/university program in communications, journalism, public policy, natural resources, or a related field
Additional Information:
This is a remote position. However, applicants located near Oklahoma City may have the opportunity for occasional in-person meetings with the Director of Policy.
NDA is happy to coordinate with academic institutions to ensure eligibility for course credit
