Compensation: Unpaid (course credit available)

Overview: The National Deer Association (NDA) is seeking a Policy Communications Intern to support our policy and advocacy efforts through compelling, mission-driven content. This position is ideal for a self-starter with strong writing and digital media skills, and a passion for conservation and public policy. The intern will contribute to outreach campaigns that promote sound wildlife management, with an emphasis on public education and policy engagement.

  • Write and edit digital content including blog posts, social media captions, newsletter blurbs, and press releases.

  • Assist in the production and editing of short videos for social media and digital campaigns.

  • Design visual content using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to support policy-related messaging.

  • Monitor current conservation policy issues, particularly those relevant to deer management, hunting access, habitat, and state/national legislation.

  • Track performance of communication efforts and contribute ideas for engagement improvements.

  • Participate in bi-weekly check-ins but manage day-to-day tasks independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience creating and managing social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn)

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and basic video production/editing tools

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects

  • Interest in conservation policy and natural resource management

  • Background or interest in hunting, wildlife, or outdoor recreation is a plus

  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a college/university program in communications, journalism, public policy, natural resources, or a related field

Additional Information:

  • This is a remote position. However, applicants located near Oklahoma City may have the opportunity for occasional in-person meetings with the Director of Policy.

  • NDA is happy to coordinate with academic institutions to ensure eligibility for course credit

How to Apply: Please submit a brief cover letter, resume, and two writing or digital content samples (e.g., social media posts, blog articles, videos, or designs) to catherine@deerassociation.com.
