Graduate Research Assistant for MINION Project- Ph.D.
Supervisor: Dr. Haley Rosson, though this position is supervised by Dr. Rosson, the individual works collaboratively with all grant faculty, WVU Extension service personnel, as well as faculty & staff in the AGEE program.
Description: The Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant (GRTA) will play a key role in supporting the Extension Mentoring IN EvaluatION (MINION) project designed to enhance undergraduate students' experiences with program evaluation, research methods, and data analysis. This project focuses on two key objectives: 1) Increasing students’ knowledge and skills in program evaluation methods and data analysis techniques, and 2) Establishing a collaborative system between students and Extension faculty to improve the evaluation of Extension programming. The GRTA will assist in managing project activities, coaching undergraduate Fellows, and providing research and administrative support. Work will be related to faculty supervisor’s USDA-NIFA grant award.
Project Specific Qualifications:
Experience in Extension programming or working with community-based research projects.
Background in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including survey design and data interpretation.
Strong knowledge of program evaluation methodologies, research methods, and data analysis techniques.
Attention to detail and capacity for coordinating multiple project elements simultaneously (e.g., scheduling, tracking student progress).
Graduate Assistant Researcher in Impacts of Post-Secondary Education - M.S. or Ph.D.
Supervisor: Dr. Aaron J Giorgi, though this position is supervised by Dr. Giorgi, the individual works collaboratively with all faculty and staff in the program.
Description: As a GA-R, the successful candidate will work closely with supervisor to develop and implement research projects on the broad impacts of educational experiences on the American population. Research will focus on, but not be limited to, post-secondary educational pathways, workforce development, college readiness, post-secondary recruitment and retention, and the related impacts on social wellness and socio-economic indicators. Further responsibilities for Ph.D. students could include teaching expectations to support undergraduate and graduate programs in the unit. Work will be related to the faculty supervisor’s approved Hatch project.
Project Specific Qualifications:
Preferred experiences with large dataset management and evaluation.
Graduate Assistant Researcher in Agricultural STEM Education - M.S. or Ph.D.
Supervisor: Dr. Rachel Hendrix
Description: This position will play a role in analyzing the state of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in West Virginia agricultural education. This will include examining teacher efficacy towards, preparation for, methods of, and barriers to integrating STEM content within secondary agricultural education courses. Further responsibilities may include developing and delivering STEM materials and professional development opportunities for West Virginia agricultural educators and instructing West Virginia University undergraduate students in STEM-based content. Work will be related to the faculty supervisor’s approved Hatch project.
Specific Qualifications:
Familiarity in or experience with STEM content and education techniques, especially tied to agricultural practices.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Graduate Assistant Coordinator for FFA Leadership & CDE events - M.S.
Supervisor: Dr. Jessica M. Blythe, though this position is supervised by Dr. Blythe, the individual works collaboratively with all faculty and staff in the program.
Description: This position will play a pivotal role in supporting the planning, execution, and management of FFA leadership activities and Career Development Events (CDE). This position is designed for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual passionate about agricultural education, youth leadership, and hands-on learning experiences. Key responsibilities include the coordination and logistical planning of FFA Leadership Conferences, workshops, and Career Development Events (CDEs) at the state level, while providing support in developing and maintaining materials, resources, and tools for leadership training and CDE events throughout the state. They will collaborate with FFA advisors, educators, and industry professionals to ensure the success of events and alignment with educational goals. Additionally, they will help manage event registration processes and scheduling, as well as support the setup, execution, and breakdown of events, ensuring all necessary resources and materials are available. The Assistant Coordinator will also coordinate with volunteers, judges, and mentors to facilitate smooth operations during events, assist in tracking and evaluating event outcomes, and provide reports and recommendations for improvement. Finally, they will maintain and update records, databases, and communications related to CDE events and leadership programming.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, Leadership, Event Management, or a related field.
Familiarity with FFA programs and Career Development Events is highly desirable.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software.
