The NC Pork Council is searching for a storyteller with best-in-class communications skills to share stories of our state’s pork industry and those who have made it a national leader. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills and experience with graphic design, photography, and video to bring stories to life in an engaging way. A passion for agriculture is a bonus.
The Manager of Communications is a self-starter with a keen eye for detail, a track record of meeting project deadlines, and exceptional interpersonal skills. At the NC Pork Council, you will be part of a collaborative work environment with qualified communicators who have expertise in animal science, business, public policy, youth development, and marketing.
JOB SUMMARY
Communications Strategy and Leadership: Manage communications priorities, develop communications strategies, and implement communications projects.
Lead all communications efforts and serve as the voice of the NC Pork Council
Engage with communications staff at national organizations such as the National Pork Board and National Pork Producers Council, attend national meetings
Work with partners such as NC Farm Families to promote the NC pork industry
Manage a network of communications professionals, freelancers, and agency partners to provide communications support as needed
Monitor, assess, and respond to coverage of the NC pork industry
Content Creation: Develop a consistent flow of compelling stories about the NC pork industry that reinforce the organization’s key messages and goals.
Requirement: Experience with creative tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite
Uncover and develop story ideas at events, on farms, and of people
Manage paid, owned, and shared media content
Develop social media posts and reels
Lead and develop graphic design efforts to complement NC Pork content
Capture photo and video to enhance stories
Work with media to pitch news stories and respond to attacks on the industry
Develop printed mailings, press releases, event promotions, and sponsorship campaigns
Manage the ncpork.org and WholeHogBarbecue.com websites, including generating timely content, updating event pages, and providing monthly website analytics
Manage development of the NC Pork Report magazine editorial calendar and content
Social Media: Engage with, and grow, NC Pork Council followers by developing content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok and other emerging platforms.
Requirement: Familiarity with social media posting and advertising tools
Set social media goals and develop social media strategies
Develop social media content calendars
Create social media content (written, visual, video) across multiple platforms
Leverage current and emerging social media trends
Implement an annual paid social media plan
Monitor social media conversations around issues relevant to the NC pork industry
Monitor metrics and prepare monthly social media performance reports
Other: Support the efforts of the NC Pork Council by working cross-functionally with other team members as needed.
Assist with major events (NC Pork Conference, Whole Hog Barbecue Championship)
Assist with philanthropy, membership engagement, and sponsor relations
