Fair & Rodeo Intern - Douglas County Fair & Rodeo

The Fair & Rodeo Intern is responsible for assisting in the operational preparation and execution of the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo. This internship is a fast paced and interactive experience that provides a glimpse into everything that goes on behind the scenes during and leading up to the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo and the corresponding PRCA Rodeo performances. 


The typical hiring rate is $20 per hour.


As a temporary position, no benefits are available.


This temporary position is expected to run from mid-May to mid-August but can go longer, depending on the workload needs and budget of our department.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)


  • Work closely with all levels of Fair & Rodeo leadership to assist in the operational execution of the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo. 

  • Assist with the planning and execution of social media management, graphic design work, and sponsor relations.

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support for the annual Fair & Rodeo.

  • Assist with daily preparation of materials (i.e., show programs, awards, premius, etc.)

  • Assist with coordination of Special Events and VIP experiences. 

  • Work on special projects as assigned by Fair & Rodeo Staff.

  • Attend, participate and provide support for all Board and Committee meetings.

  • Maintain venue quality, consisting of maintaining the look of the facility and working with internal departments to create smooth and successful events. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 


Supervision Received:  This position works under the direct supervision of the manager, with guidance and feedback provided regularly.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.  


Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:    

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED and current enrollment in a current related undergraduate program.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.

  • Experience with social media platforms and graphic design software.


Certifications, Licenses, & Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon internship inquiry, with complying insurance. 

  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.


Physical Work Environment:   

  • Work is generally performed in an office environment with occasional work outdoors.

  • Extended work hours may be required to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

  • Has close, frequent, in-person contact with coworkers, County staff, temporary staff, and the general public. 


Physical Demands:  

  • Required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and drive.  

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.  

  • Occasional heavy lifting and stacking of 50 pounds or more.


Material and Equipment Directly Used:  Computer, iPad or similar device, smartphone, copier/scanner/fax machine; may operate a county vehicle.
