Job Summary: The Executive Director (ED) will serve as the chief executive officer of Texas Brigades, dedicated to educating and empowering adolescents with leadership skills and knowledge in wildlife, fisheries, and land stewardship to become conservation ambassadors for a sustained natural resource legacy. The ED is responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure the organization’s long-term success and impact. This role involves the management of staff, supporting volunteer efforts, the oversight of youth conservation camps, educational programs, fundraising, and partnership development efforts that align with Texas Brigades mission. Texas Brigades is a 501(c)(3).
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
• Develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
• Support and cultivate volunteer efforts that are key to program implementation.
• Provide inspirational leadership to staff, volunteers, and stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.
• Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of the organization’s programs, including youth camps, community outreach, and conservation initiatives.
Operational Management:
• Ensure the effective day-to-day operations of the organization, including financial management, human resources, and program delivery.
• Manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial stability and transparency.
• Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of a high-performing team, ensuring that staff are motivated, supported, and aligned with the organization’s mission.
Program Development and Management:
• Lead the development and implementation of youth conservation camps and educational programs that inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
• Ensure programs are designed to achieve measurable outcomes, are accessible to diverse communities, and are delivered to the highest standards.
• Foster partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of the organization’s educational initiatives.
Fundraising and Resource Development:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and corporate partnerships.
• Build and maintain relationships with key donors, foundations, and other funding sources. • Identify and pursue opportunities for new revenue streams, ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization.
Community Engagement and Advocacy:
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing its mission and programs to the public, media, and key stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with local, regional, and national partners, including government agencies, conservation groups, and educational institutions to amplify Texas Brigades impact.
• Advocate for policies and practices that support environmental conservation and youth education at the local, state, and national levels.
Board Relations:
• Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and organizational oversight.
• Provide regular reports to the Board on the organization’s performance, including financial status, program outcomes, and strategic priorities.
• Assist the Board in identifying and recruiting new members, ensuring a diverse and skilled leadership team.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, nonprofit management, education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in a conservation, nonprofit, or educational organization, with a track record of successful program management, fundraising, and strategic partnership development.
• Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
Strong background in fundraising, including grant writing and donor relations.
Knowledge of conservation issues, environmental education, and youth development.
Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
Ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships.

Working Conditions: Duties are performed in the office and in associated environments. Evening, holiday, and weekend work is occasionally required, especially during peak program season (June-July). Travel is required in various locations across the state as it relates to development and outreach efforts such as meetings, conventions, expos, and program sponsored events. Travel will account for 15-25% of time.
