Director of Communications & Youth Activities - Santa Gertrudis Breeders International (SGBI)

Position:

Santa Gertrudis Breeders International (SGBI) is seeking qualified candidates for Youth Activities / Communications Director. This position is responsible for the association's communications services and overseeing the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Association (NJSGA). The position will closely interact with all members of the SGBI Board of Directors, NJSGA Board of Directors, Youth Activities Committee, Sales & Marketing Committee, Breed Promotion Committee, vendors and service providers. This position will be a direct report of the Executive Director of SGBI. Communications Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the communications, digital, print advertising, and social media marketing for Santa Gertrudis Breeders International and the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Association.

  • Maintain SGBI website

  • Maintain the SGBI and NJSGA Facebook and Instagram

  • Write and distribute email blasts to members

  • Write and distribute press releases to members

  • Assist with preparation for SGBI Board of Directors meetings

  • Provide information to beef industry publications to promote SGBI and benefits of Santa Gertrudis.

  • Develop SGBI’s annual print media and marketing strategy


Youth Director Activities:

  • Co-organize and facilitate the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Show each summer and GOALS Leadership Conference bi-annually in partnership with Youth Activities Chair

  • Serve as advisor / coordinator of the NJSGA Junior Board

  • Supervise and chaperone NJSGA Junior Board at industry events, junior nationals, etc.

  • Plan the NJSGA board meetings/retreat

  • Maintain the NJSGA Facebook and Instagram

  • Solicit corporate sponsorships of the National Junior Santa Gertrudis Show

  • Manage the NJSGA budget, ensuring responsible financial oversight.

  • Maintain accurate records of participation, event results, and historical data.


Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, preferably in ag communications, animal science, ag business, finance, agriculture or agricultural education.

  • Minimum 2-3 years related experience preferred.

  • Livestock or purebred beef industry background is highly desirable.

  • Experience with junior livestock shows and or junior beef cattle organizations is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with young people and build relationships with stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priority projects quickly and efficiently under deadlines of a busy office.

  • Strong computer skills including understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Meta Business Suite, email, and web browsing.

  • Experience working with youth programs is preferred.

  • Ability to make travel arrangements for yourself and others.

  • Ability to take direction from a Board then visualize, plan, and execute initiatives from start to finish.


Travel Requirements:

Travel will be required approximately 20% of the time, including weekends, to local, regional, national and possibly international events.


Location: Remote work with some required time at the headquarters office in Kingsville, TX.


Compensation: Commensurate with skills and experience. A competitive benefit package is included.
