The Communications Student Worker is under the direction of the Director of Recruitment and Retention within the College of Education Human Sciences (CEHS) Watson Center for Student and Career Development. The Student Communications worker focuses on communications projects for both current and prospective students in CEHS alongside the staff in our office that works with those respective student populations.
The student employee will collaborate with all staff in the Watson Center. This staff includes an Assistant Director and Student and Career Development Coordinators. This part of the staff focuses on current student needs and supports student development needs, promotes retention efforts, advises student organizations and performs career development responsibilities. The Intern will support these efforts by designing communications via email, text and other visual needs for marketing displays. The other part of the office is Prospective Student Services. The Manager and Coordinator of Prospective Student Services will work with the intern on projects, learning about events and communication needs while assisting in a vision for communication needs for the recruitment year. This entire process of partnerships will be supervised by the Director of Recruitment and Retention, with whom weekly meetings will be had.
The College of Education and Human Sciences provides undergraduate degrees and majors related to human health, aviation, education, interior design, fashion design, fashion business, recreation management, and social and community services. Prospective students may be current high school students, high school graduates, current or former students from other higher education institutions, and represent various locations, backgrounds and experiences.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist with the development of digital communication (email and social media) targeted to the entire undergraduate student audience as well as to various subsets of the population.
Draft email and/or text message communications for specified purposes and construct coordinating templates in Slate, the OSU prospective and current student CRM.
Design graphics to be used for all student populations related to promoting events, applications and academic programs.
Develop strong skills in executing tasks in Slate by completing comprehensive training as needed.
Assist professional staff in collaborating with CEHS Marketing and Communications on -related design projects by identifying images, videos and/or other media that correspond with the project’s purpose and intended audience as well as with the Watson Center staff’s communicated specifications.
Assist with the coordination of prospective student events and activities both on- and off-campus.
Assist with the coordination of current student recognition events on campus as well as any other current student events that need communication and design assistance.
Data tracking and analytics for campaign effectiveness.
Project ownership – leading all efforts to communicate effectively in new or updating old communications
Schedule/Hours: Hours will be 10 -15 hours per week. These hours should be between 8-5 Monday-Friday during the fall and spring semester weeks in 106 Willard.
Compensation: $10 per hour
Work Environment: The intern will work with and office around our Student Recruitment Assist (SRA) team. SRAs are a group of around 10 students working with our prospective student services team to host students on and off the OSU campus. SRAs are trained to promote a variety of programs and majors in CEHS. Our office culture is one of fun and hard work. We accomplish great things like supporting students in CEHS who have earned the highest average GPA for 16 consecutive years on the OSU campus, representing the fastest growing college on campus and the top two fastest growing majors for admission applications at OSU.
