Communications Specialist - OSU Office of Communications and Marketing

Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist is a skilled professional who excels in creating outstanding print and digital designs. This role requires precision, creativity, a keen eye for detail and the ability to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines. As a key member of the Office of Communications and Marketing, team, they will collaborate with an experienced creative and graphic design team and work closely with other staff to effectively promote and elevate the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources across the OSU community, as well as at the state, regional and national levels.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensure materials align with OSU Agriculture brand guidelines

  • Deliver high-impact, consistent designs

  • Oversee complex projects including educational resources and promotional materials from concept to completion

  • Work with cross-functional teams to align creative work with organizational goals and design objectives

  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility best practices, making materials welcoming and accessible

  • Other duties as assigned


Duty reporting is in-person on the OSU campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The Office of Communications and Marketing for OSU Agriculture is a welcoming environment that thrives on creativity and collaboration. We are a team of experienced professionals who deliver all aspects of integrated communications and serve as the news, information and marketing team for OSU Extension, OSU Ag Research and OSU’s Ferguson College of Agriculture.


Position Qualifications:


Required: Bachelors in graphic design, communications, public relations, agricultural communications or related field.


At least 1 year of experience as a graphic designer or communicator in a creative/communications role or professional agency.


Valid Drivers License Reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties. Reimbursement for official travel.


  • Experience as a graphic designer with a diverse, compelling portfolio showcasing high-level design projects across multiple platforms

  • Demonstrated ability to work within existing brand guidelines, ensuring cohesive and impactful cross-platform materials

  • A refined eye for visual composition, aesthetics and typography

  • Proficient in illustrations

  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs, including Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop

  • Basic understanding of Canva

  • Possess a strong understanding of the printing process and the ability to collaborate with print and promotional vendors to ensure files are designed and exported correctly

  • Ability to ensure consistency and quality across all visual materials created

  • Proven track record in executing design projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with marketing strategies and division goals

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present design concepts and strategies effectively to stakeholders at all levels of the organization

  • Solid understanding of Associated Press Style

  • Ability to be a collaborative team member

  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and business needs, while maintaining a high standard of creativity and design integrity

  • Solid understanding of marketing strategy and ability to ensure designs align with broader business objectives


Preferred:

  • One- to five-years’ experience in graphic design, layout and typography preferred with a professional agency or creative communications role.

  • Understanding of accessibility principles and best practices, with the ability to implement them in all design work

  • Advanced illustration skills
