Communications & Marketing Strategist - American Paint Horse Association

The Communications & Marketing Strategist helps lead development, execution and analysis of various marketing strategies and communications efforts for the American Paint Horse Association and Marked for Greatness Properties, LLC. This role also helps coordinates APHA’s internship program, marketing outreach efforts and event collateral to help promote, preserve and provide meaningful experiences with Paint Horses and value-added ways to engage with APHA and MFG. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

General

  • Report on marketing and communication activities to Sr. Director of Communications and Director of Marketing & Creative Design

  • Work in concert with internal teams to develop, execute and coordinate marketing and communication strategies and deliverables across various platforms

  • Stay abreast of trends, news, changing demographics and other relevant issues in the equine industry


Specific Duties

  • Lead development, execution and analysis of marketing strategies across various communication platforms, including:

    • APHA newsletters, across various topic areas

    • APHA email communications

  • Assist in maintaining a consistent branding strategy for APHA/MFG and related assets across all platforms and media

  • Serve as a primary contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding APHA and MFG event marketing

  • Manage APHA advertising deliverables to outside organizations

  • Maintain updated membership lists (segmented as needed) in marketing tools like Feathr

  • Lead the development, design and execution of promotional materials, including ads, brochures and other resources, in concert with the Marketing & Communications team and other stakeholders. 

  • Assist in development and execution of marketing/brand strategies and live event coordination (as needed) for APHA- or MFG-owned events, in concert with appropriate event team leads

  • Coordinate APHA presence at outside events and serve as their primary communication lead for requests, including fulfillment of promotional requests

  • Manage marketing resources including banners, mascot costume, promotional requests, giveaways, etc. 

  • Help lead the APHA internship program, in concert with specific concentration leads. Includes development/distribution of announcements, interview coordination, on-boarding and intern support, mentorship, and other duties as needed


Skills Required

  • Strong written communication skills, including writing clear, engaging content

  • A working knowledge of emerging media.

  • Knowledge of the horse industry and timely issues is preferred, but not required.

  • Experience with photography and videography is preferred, but not required. 

  • Preference will be given to candidates with real-world marketing experience, including proficiency in email marketing, design and layout, and use of Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign and Lightroom


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to speak and hear.

  • Ability to use hands to grasp, handle or feel frequently.

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms frequently.

  • Ability to sit for long periods.

  • Ability to stand and walk occasionally.

  • Ability to see small numbers and figures and work for extended periods on computer.

  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds continuously and up to 25 pounds occasionally.


Work Environment

  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers).

  • Light employee traffic.

  • Exposure to heat and/or cold temperatures at shows.

  • Exposure to dust and dirt at shows.

  • Exposure to animals at shows.
