This opportunity is designed to provide the participant with hands-on communications experience with an organization that serves as the global voice of the U.S. pork industry. NPPC’s communications intern works with a team dedicated to advocating for the public policy interests of U.S. pork producers and others in the agricultural sector, providing exposure to and experience with the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the U.S. government. It’s an excellent opportunity to build a portfolio of work for students seeking a career in public policy-related communications and/or public affairs. Under the direction of the communications director, NPPC interns gain hands-on experience in media relations, social media content creation, graphic design, website management and writing.
Specific tasks of the participant will likely include, but are not limited to:
Aggregating and distributing media coverage related to the U.S. pork industry (daily)
Drafting newsletters, brochures and other content for the NPPC website and social media platforms
Maintaining and updating databases for the media and other key stakeholder groups
Writing summary articles relating to NPPC’s advocacy efforts (weekly)
Attending congressional hearings and other meetings
Providing logistical support for NPPC events
