Communications Internship - National Pork Producers Council

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is the global voice for the U.S. pork industry, protecting the livelihoods of 66,000 pork producers across America. NPPC works with legislators and regulators to advocate for reasonable public policies that support the social, environmental and economic sustainability of U.S. pork producers and their partners that expand access to global operations.

This NPPC internship program offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the intersection of public policy, advocacy and communication strategies. The intern will work with NPPC’s public policy team to maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including members, government officials and industry partners. The selected candidate will gain practical experience in media relations, digital content creation, website management and advocacy events support.

Responsibilities:

  • Aggregate and distribute media coverage related to the U.S. pork industry

  • Draft newsletters, brochures and other content for NPPC communications

  • Maintain and update databases for the media and other key stakeholder groups

  • Write summary articles relating to NPPC’s advocacy efforts

  • Provide logistical support for NPPC events

  • Other duties as assigned

Flexible Start and End Dates:

  • Spring 2024 – part-time internship from January to May

  • Summer 2024 – full-time internship from May to August

  • Fall 2024 – part-time internship from September to December

Location: Communications internships are based at NPPC’s Urbandale, IA headquarters, with opportunities to travel to the Washington, DC public policy office.

Interview Timeline:

After applications are vetted, Denise Veldhuizen, Director of Operations, and Mikayla Dolch, Manager of Marketing and Digital Communications, will be in contact to schedule interviews. Interviews will occur between Monday, November 6 and Friday, November 10 with spring and summer internship offers extended before Thanksgiving.
