Communications Intern - OSU Unified

This position is a part of the InternOSU Program. Along with fulfilling standard job responsibilities, you will participate in OSU Career Services professional development activities


What is OSU Unified?

OSU Unified is a collaboration between the Center for Developmental Disabilities (OSUCDD), Department of Wellness, and OSU Unified Sports Club that provides and supports opportunities for adult Special Olympic Athletes to compete alongside Unified Partners (OSU students, faculty and staff) in a variety of sporting events hosted by OSU Intramurals.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Create engaging social media content for OSU Unified for use on social media, email communication, and marketing products. Assist with recruitment and record keeping for OSU Unified. The student selected for the position of Communications Intern must exhibit exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, including the capacity to self-motivate and build structure where none exists. To be considered for the position of Communications Intern, students must have an academic status of Sophomore or higher at the time of employment and possess a 2.5 GPA at the time of application and hire. While employed with OSU Unified in OSUCDD, a GPA of 2.5 must be maintained. Work hours will require availability during evening hours for once a week OSU Unified events. OSUCDD team members help to establish a positive, supportive, and inclusive education and learning environment for all students.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:-

  • Recruit Special Olympics Athletes, Partners (OSU students, faculty and staff), and coaches for OSU Unified

  • Assist with record keeping of attendance, enrollment, and registration for OSU Unified for Special Olympic Athletes and Partners

  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas and venues for recruitment and exposure of OSU Unified

  • Maintain strong internal communication with OSU Unified and OSUCDD team

  • Maintain strong external communication with Special Olympics Athletes and their supporters, partners and coaches regarding OSU Unified events

  • Create engaging social media content and work with OSU Unified and OSUCDD leadership on ways to expand our digital footprint

  • Social media account management including scheduling posts, monitoring inboxes, and responding to comments and messages

  • Identify and organize content including images, video, social clips, and files for streamlined access within the OSU Unified resource library

  • Carry out other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Students on academic probation are not eligible to apply or hold a position with OSU Unified and OSUCDD. Please refer to the university policy for more details.

  • Applicants must be enrolled as degree-seeking undergraduate students at Oklahoma State University and completed at least 2 semesters on the Stillwater campus before employment.

  • Applicants must possess a 2.5 GPA at the time of application. OSUCDD employees must maintain a 2.5 GPA during the length of their employment.

  • Applicants must showcase the following skills and qualities: oral and written communication and computer skills, organizational skills, flexibility and problem-solving, and interpersonal communication.

  • Applicants demonstrate digital fluency.  You’re an expert at navigating technology and can easily pick up new tools and platforms.

  • Applicants will show enthusiasm for creative work.  You’re an innovative, inquisitive, problem-solver who takes initiative and is eager to learn, try new things, and share ideas.

  • Qualified applicants will have demonstrable experience in using Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc. to publish content.

  • Applicants must be available for evening/weekend work.

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disability is preferred but NOT required.

  • Applicants must be available for a start date of August 12th, 2024.

  • Applicants must be available via Zoom one night a week (TBD) for July for the required one-hour training.

This internship will take place in the academic year of Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.
