The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan is seeking a skilled Communications and Marketing professional to serve as our next Communications Director. MI Corn is comprised of two organizations — the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan and the Michigan Corn Growers Association, working together to advance the needs of Michigan’s corn producers and the broader agricultural community.


Position Overview

This hybrid role works Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday onsite (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) and Monday and Friday remotely with rotational Monday & Friday office coverage with the other staff. This role will have occasional evening and weekend events and hours and travels approximately 15% of the time.

As Communications Director, you will lead the development and execution of CMPM’s communication strategy, strengthen public understanding of Michigan’s corn industry, and serve as the organization’s primary point of contact for external communications and public relations.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Branding

  • Develop and maintain auniform organizational brand.

  • Create and implement strategic communications plans aligned with Board priorities.

  • Increase visibility among producers, growers, researchers, regulators, legislators, and the public.

Public Relations & Media Engagement

  • Serve as the primary contact for external communications and media relations.

  • Coordinate press conferences, briefings, interviews, and special media events.

  • Build and maintain relationships with state, national, and agricultural media outlets.

Content Development

  • Produce press releases, articles, fact sheets, talking points, speeches, presentations, and educational materials.

  • Oversee production of promotional videos, photography, and digital content for social media, YouTube, and web platforms.

  • Coordinate the organization's magazine/newsletter publications.

Marketing & Event Support

  • Develop marketing plans for print, radio, and TV advertising.

  • Support publicity and promotion for all organizational events, including the Great Lakes Crop Summit.

  • Identify opportunities to promote CMPM initiatives through outreach programs and events.

Digital Communications

  • Manage the organization’s website and social media channels.

  • Explore new media partnerships and digital communication opportunities.

Department Leadership

  • Oversee the communications department budget and ensure responsible fiscal management.

  • Collaborate effectively with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and external partners.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.

  • Agricultural industry experience preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 15% (in-state, national, and potential international).

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, social media platforms, and graphic design tools.

  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings and special events.

  • Ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Strong judgment, independence, teamwork, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
