Job Description

The Associate Director, Policy Communications, supports the development and execution of timely, impactful communications that inform members and stakeholders about key policy developments and drive engagement in support of NCBA’s legislative priorities. This role strengthens producer-awareness of NCBA’s value by clearly conveying priority issues and organizational wins across broadcast, print, digital, trade and political media. Working closely with communications and government affairs teams, the Associate Director transforms complex policy topics into accessible, member‑focused content and supports coordinated grassroots advocacy, rapid response efforts and strategic communication initiatives.

 

Essential Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

 

  • Regularly develop and distribute compelling print, audio and video news to ensure NCBA is viewed as the primary source, disseminator and conduit of information for the beef cattle industry, particularly among media outlets

  • Translate complex policy and legislative issues into clear, accurate, member-friendly and Hill-facing communications

  • Create print, audio, video and social media content for NCBA media channels and package key policy messages into engaging, shareable formats for email, web and social media distribution

  • Track policy communications calendars, deadlines and deliverables to ensure timely execution

  • Position NCBA and its activities across national, state, local and agricultural trade media by leading proactive media outreach efforts, including story development, media pitching, interview coordination, and follow‑up communications

  • Monitor media coverage, social conversations and policy sentiment related to NCBA priorities

  • Track engagement metrics for policy communications efforts

  • Develop advocacy calls to action and support grassroots advocacy campaigns and action alerts

  • Maintain message banks, approved talking points, advocacy toolkits, and policy resource hubs

  • Manage and update policy-related digital content across email, website and social media platforms

  • Develop and maintain relationships with congressional press staff by ensuring timely, accurate information is shared on issues impacting the beef industry

  • Support rapid response communications under the guidance of senior staff

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, public relations or communications is required.

  • EXPERIENCE – Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the field of communications, preferably with a background in agriculture. Existing relationships on Capitol Hill or with agricultural and/or national media are a plus.

  • EQUIVALENCY - None

  • CERTIFICATION(S) – None

  • SKILLS- Must be able to assist with the development and execution of complex communications strategy to assist with furthering NCBA’s policy agenda. Employee should possess strong writing and editing skills. Self-starting with the ability to deliver high-quality results with limited supervision.
