U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc. (USCHI) is an association comprised of professional custom

harvesters and associate members that serve the needs of the American farmer. Our

organization was established and chartered in 1983 in the state of Texas and serves as a link between the harvesters and the many groups of people they work with, such as farmers, businesses, state and federal government. Our current office is now in the state of Kansas. Our mission is: advance the cause of the members of the Corporation by representing and promoting the harvesting industry; to positively influence government and regulatory agencies; to enhance the relationship between custom harvesters, their clients, and service providers to the industry, and the general public; to manage the changing landscape within the industry while enhancing the profitability of custom harvesters and their customers.


Internship description:

U.S. Custom Harvesters is offering two internship positions for the 2024 U.S. Custom

Harvesters Annual Convention in Oklahoma City, OK. Our internship provides a unique

opportunity for students to gain first-hand experiences and interact with harvesters and business professionals. Interns will assist with event coverage of the trade show, membership meetings and educational sessions. Both internships require post-convention work.


Applications due: November 26, 2023

Location: Oklahoma City Convention Center

Time Period: January 24-28, 2024


Experience required:

This internship is for a Junior or Senior undergraduate student. Preference will be given to ag journalism/communications students and/or broadcast journalism to capture the live events at the annual convention.


Additional Information:

  • Interns will be provided with a $1,000 stipend at the Annual Convention.

  • Preferred arrival in Oklahoma City, OK is Wednesday, January 24, 2024, and preferred

  • departure is Sunday morning, January 28, 2024.

  • Interns will be provided with a hotel room.

  • Most meals are provided at the convention. Additional meals will be at the intern’s

  • expense.

  • The intern will be responsible for travel costs to and from convention.

  • Report/letter from USCHI for intern for their degree program or faculty advisor file will be

  • provided post-convention, upon request.

  • All photos/written material produced will become property of USCHI.

  • Interns will be responsible for supplying their own equipment.

  • Press release is due Feb. 5. All other materials from internship are due March 1.


Communications Intern Responsibilities:

  • Photograph and capture highlights from the Annual Convention, educational sessions,

  • trade show, and awards ceremony to include in press release and on social media

  • platforms.

  • Interview attendees to include in highlight videos and on social media.

  • Update and maintain social media presence throughout entire convention.

  • Work with video/broadcast intern to capture videos for social media.

  • Create a post-convention press release.

  • Draft post-convention social media metrics report.

Skills needed:

  • Ability to manage business social media platforms.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including interviewing skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and press release writing.

  • Ability to work independently and willingness to be a team player.

  • Strong interest in the agriculture industry, particularly the harvesting sector.

  • Willingness to learn from others and absorb knowledge about the harvest sector.


Video/Broadcast Intern Responsibilities:

  • Assist with social media content production for event coverage.

  • Photograph/record clinics, educational sessions, trade show and meetings.

  • Take photographs/short videos of the tradeshow exhibitors and attendees.

  • Interview trade show exhibitors, attendees, and board members for video content.

  • Create one 3-minute video, one 30-second video to promote annual convention recap

  • and three interview videos.

Skills needed:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interview individuals through a video/broadcast setting.

  • Working knowledge of video production software.

  • Ability to work independently and willingness to be a team player.

  • Strong interest in the agriculture industry, particularly the harvest sector.

  • Willingness to learn from others and absorb knowledge about the harvest sector.
