What is a STEMist?
College student who teaches workshops and curriculum to 4-H youth from Oklahoma. Students who are interested or have experience in science, education, communications, or youth development are encouraged to apply.STEMist will prepare and present workshops across the state, along with recording and editing educational videos/experiments in an office environment.
What should STEMists expect?
10 week program with 40 hours a week of developing and teaching content
Attend STEMist trainings (arranged based on selected individuals’ schedules)
Complete program evaluations as assigned by Oklahoma 4-H Youth Development
Collaborate with other STEMists and Oklahoma 4-H staff members
Travel across Oklahoma teaching workshops and activities
To be flexible and able to think on your feet
Develop and edit educational videos
Teaching assignments will be based on the STEMist’s experience and skills. We expect the majority of the time to be spent working directly with youth at county events conducted around the state along with virtual day camps as well. STEMists may also be scheduled to teach during 4-H Roundup, Parent-Volunteer Conferences, and other State/District 4-H events.
Students with the ability to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to improve the program are sought for this opportunity.
What are the requirements for STEMists?
Former 4-H members (not limited to Oklahoma)
College students interested in a career in education, communications, science, or related fields.
Driver’s license and ability to travel (in hopes that we might be able to)
