Farm Journal Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to achieving global food security by sustaining modern agriculture’s leadership role and ability to meet the vital needs of a growing population. We are seeking an exceptional communications professional to join our small, but dynamic team and professionalize our communications and outreach. We are looking for candidates who are self-starters that thrive in a less structured and more informal office environment. Ideal candidates will be articulate, strong writers, and have the capacity to turn work around quickly. This position will report to the CEO and will work closely with the government affairs and business development teams. This position will be based in Washington, DC, however during the COVID-19 pandemic remote accommodations will be offered. Applications are due by November 6
Lead, manage, and execute overall organizational communications strategy and workplan.
Raise visibility and profile of Farm Journal Foundation and our main advocacy platforms among U.S. policymakers, donors, thought leaders, advocacy community, and university community.
Provide public relations and media relations strategy and support.
Create and manage editorial calendar.
Improve, manage, and schedule all social media platforms and content (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).
Manage relationships with press and media and proactively use professional network to place editorials, quotes, media, etc. in national and local media publications.
Manage junior communications staff and interns.
Oversee and delegate projects to part-time communications consultants.
5+ years of communications and/or PR experience.
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Energetic and entrepreneurial work ethic.
Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, flexibility, and team player attitude
Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), outreach and project management tools (e.g. MailChimp, Asana, TweetDeck, etc.), and popular social media platforms (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
Experience in agriculture, international development, or advocacy fields preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field.
10-15% domestic travel (when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted)

Compensation and Benefits
