Sponsorship & Marketing Director – Kansas State Fair


Hutchinson, KS • Full-Time • Bachelor's Degree Required

Responsible for developing sales plans and executing sales strategies for sponsorship and fair events. This position includes oversight of sponsorships and marketing. Leads and motivates the sales teams -Marketing Manager and Sponsorship/Special Events Coordinator to achieve maximum total revenues, Fair attendance, and partnerships.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop in coordination with the General Manager the long-term strategic marketing plan for the Kansas State Fair.

  • Establish sales goals and strategies as it relates to marketing, sponsorship, special events.

  • Monitor sales metrics throughout the year to determine if sales strategies need to be adjusted to achieve quarterly and annual goals.

  • Communicate in conjunction Marketing Manager, or events throughout the year.

  • Prepare and forecast annual sales for areas of responsibility i.e., Corporate Group Revenues, Sponsorship.

  • Provides lead role responsible to procure significant cash sponsorships and negotiate mutually beneficial in-kind partnerships.

  • Oversees and leads sponsorship/special events coordinator in coordination with the Commercial Exhibits Coordinator on placement of sponsor display space for functional and coordinated best management of Fairgrounds space.

  • Work with each team member to evaluate partnerships maximizing return and minimize risk. Return on Investment.

  • Develop and build customer relationships local and statewide.

  • Responsible for timely collection and accurate financial reporting of sponsorship revenues collected and recorded.

  • Work closely with the Competitive Exhibits & Grand Drive Director regarding sponsorships secured.

  • As needed, oversees securing of all sponsorships process and final execution of agreements and proof of performance at the conclusion of the Kansas State Fair or event.

  • Secure in coordination with the General Manager and Marketing Manager all future marketing and public relations agreements.

  • Secure and coordinate catering commissions from planned and future caterers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree is preferred in a business-related field. Any additional training certification/techniques is also a benefit.

  • 5-10 years’ experience in sales related position. Exhibition trade show, financial management and supervising experience are required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Individual must be highly motivated, outgoing, and customer-service driven.

  • Strong verbal and written persuasive skills required.

  • Public speaking and strong negotiation skills.

  • Flexibility as this position is frequently a non-standard work week.
