Agriculture Future of America (AFA) is a competitive, non-profit organization that provides personal and professional development programs and career exploration for college students and young professionals in agriculture, food and natural resources. We exist to build transformational leaders for food and agriculture by fostering professionalism, intellectualism and intrapreneurialism.
AFA is seeking an intern who will be part of our marketing and communications team to help develop and implement various campaigns and efforts to increase awareness of AFA among our constituent groups (students, collegiate professionals, industry professionals and young professionals). Additionally, the person in this position will play an instrumental role in the creation of creative marketing assets to serve a variety of stakeholders.
The internship can run February – May 2023, or February – August 2023 depending on the individual’s availability. The hired individual will work part-time February – May, and full-time May – August. Future career growth includes the potential of extending the internship through December 2023.
Essential Functions
Design and create assets that showcase AFA partners, including but not limited to social media content, event signage, feature articles, mobile app graphics, flyers, handouts and digital magazines.
Conduct interviews of AFA constituent groups and write content that tells the AFA story in a compelling way specific to a variety of audiences.
Execute promotion plans that engage AFA alumni in various offerings, including communication plan development, asset creation and analysis of data to ensure progress in meeting engagement goals.
Lead promotion and marketing of individual giving campaigns to meet organizational giving goals.
Manage AFA merchandise store, handling day-to-day business operations and customer experience.
Provide marketing communication resources to support student prospecting efforts including infographics, social posts, etc.
Creation of effective social content that drives engagement and results across a variety of platforms (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
Assist and provide insight to overall website audit, as well as editing and developing web content.
Provide marketing communication resources to support student leaders including infographics, presentation outlines, handouts, social posts, etc.
Brainstorming & bringing new ideas to the table.
Required Education and Experience
The ideal candidate would be a current college student or recent college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in communications and/or marketing.
Firm grasp in graphic design and photo/video editing.
Excellent working knowledge of social platforms — Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok.
Preferred Qualifications
Above average writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, including but not limited to Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Premiere Pro.
Experience using Canva.
Past participation in AFA Leaders Conference or an AFA Leader Institute.
Interest in a career in food, agriculture or natural resources.
Experience in email marketing and email marketing platforms, such as Pardot, Mailchimp or Constant Contact.
