Issues and Engagement Manager – Animal Agriculture Alliance

Job purpose The manager, issues and engagement is responsible for shaping the Alliance’s issues management and crisis communications strategy. The manager, issues and engagement plays a critical role in helping the Alliance achieve its goals through quick thinking, a strategic approach, creativity, ability to facilitate discussions across stakeholder groups, commitment to quality work and a collaborative spirit.


Duties and responsibilities The manager, issues and engagement develops issues management and crisis communication strategies that advance the Alliance mission of safeguarding the future of animal agriculture and its value to society by bridging the communication gap between the farm and food communities. Key duties and responsibilities of the manager, issues and engagement are to:

  • Develop and execute the organization’s issues management strategy, determining the most effective way for the Alliance to both proactively address and reactively respond to emerging issues. Provide counsel to Alliance members and contacts on responding to issues and handling crisis situations.

  • Lead the Alliance’s efforts to expose those who threaten our nation’s food security with damaging misinformation, including monitoring and responding to the efforts of adversarial groups and creating/updating security-focused Alliance resources.

  • Coordinate strategic discussions with relevant stakeholders on issues and engagement strategies, including working with the Alliance’s various communications, stakeholder engagement and issues management-focused committees.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, positioning the Alliance as the go-to organization on relevant issues. Engage and represent the Alliance in various issue-focused coalitions.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Animal Ag Allies program with a focus on continuous improvement and growth toward organizational goals.

  • In coordination with the Alliance team, assist in planning the annual Stakeholders Summit, including agenda development and speaker coordination.

  • Create a variety of content and plan events as needed to achieve the organization’s objectives, including articles, blogs, marketing materials, email blasts, webinars, farm tours, trade show engagement and more.

  • Represent the Alliance at various animal agriculture community events, including through speaking engagements.
