Plan, coordinate, or edit content of material for publication. Write, edit and/or prepare materials for proposals or publications for a designated department or area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write articles and news releases for public distribution; identify audience and method of distribution; gather related materials.
Prepare, rewrite and edit copy to improve readability, or supervise others who do this work.
Plan the contents of publications according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements.
Review, evaluate, and edit written materials from Extension Educators, Specialists, and other faculty and staff of the College of Ag & Natural Resources.
Interview individuals and attend meetings to obtain publication information. Verify facts, dates, and statistics, using standard reference sources.
Organize materials; plan overall and individual formats and layouts appropriate for an assortment of news and information outlets including UWAgNews.com.
Assist in coordinating UW Extension social media efforts across multiple platforms.
Create platform-appropriate materials to populate assorted UW Extension social media accounts
Review final proof to detect errors and indicate corrections.
Attend hallmark Extension and COANR events (ie State Fair) throughout the state to collect stories and reports.
Provide training and support to help Extension personnel, and at times members of the public, improve their written communications skills.
Track analytics and other metrics as available to understand audience reach of published materials.
Build relationships with press and broadcast outlets across the state to ensure continued distribution of Extension publications and press releases.
Take photographs at events and while producing stories or willingness to learn photojournalism skills to enhance published products
