Digital Media Internship – Oklahoma City Zoo

The Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden is seeking an enthusiastic, progressive and detail-oriented intern to join the public relations department during the spring of 2021.


Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Provide support to the OKC Zoo’s marketing, public relations departments on projects that focus both on offline and online channels.

  • Maintain the organizational structure of the Zoo’s multimedia content storage.

  • Work cohesively with multiple departments within the Zoo (education, conservation, animal areas, horticulture, etc.) as well as the Oklahoma Zoological Society.

  • Assist in providing content for the Zoo’s digital marketing efforts, including Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.

  • Will be adept at producing video, audio and photo content quickly –whenever/wherever OKC Zoo’s activities may be.

  • Assist during Zoo-hosted events (including some weekends, after hours).

  • Must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community-oriented.

Position Requirements:

  • studying marketing, communications or journalism field is highly recommended; writing experience for nonprofit agency; excellent written and oral communication skills; creative, detail-oriented, self-starter.

  • Student must be receiving course credit to qualify for this internship.

  • Proficient PC or MAC skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and CRM applications. Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro X experience is a plus.

  • Position Reports to: Digital Media Coordinator.

  • Exceptional guest service and organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively with the staff, volunteers, instructors and partners.

  • Ability to think strategically, resourcefully and be a skilled problem-solver.

  • Established skill in working with diverse audiences, especially children.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Must have the flexibility and willingness to work on evenings, some holidays and weekends when required.

  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions year-round.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to climb stairs.

  • Must be able to lift and push event equipment, i.e. tables, chairs, audio visual equipment, chair and table carts.
