The Associate Director, Science Outreach & Dissemination will work across the research tactics and with the staff leads of each tactic to plan and execute outreach and dissemination projects to extend research results to a science-focused audience.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • With each research program lead (beef safety, nutrition, product quality, sustainability and consumer market research), develop a plan for extending research outcomes.

  • Build strong relationships with public relations staff at major universities, especially those conducting beef research in collaboration with research program leads.

  • When research studies are released, work with the above team to outline and implement science outreach plans to elevate the coverage of beef research outcomes as appropriate.

  • Proactively review, monitor, and build relationships with target science publications by fostering consistent dialogue as determined by the collaborative team.

  • Be familiar with the research programs, topics being researched, focus areas for beef and what outlets or writers are focused on related to research programs. Monitor each for opportunities to engage about beef research content.

  • With each program lead, develop responses as appropriate to inaccurate or incorrect media stories by providing accurate information and resources to target publications. This may be an email, letter-to-the-editor or phone call to help correct misinformation.

  • Collaboration with other communication teams within NCBA is essential. When outreach goes beyond the science-based outlets or writers, effective hand-offs/collaborations with other teams may be necessary.

  • Develop an outreach/dissemination plan for research content with program leads. Manage the production of new content related to single projects including fact sheets, executive summaries, research updates/briefs, project summaries, etc. from final report/manuscript through design and print/online post.

  • Travel may be included up to 10% to 15%.

  • Other job duties as assigned.
