Communications Internship – Ohio Pork Council

Position Description: The Ohio Pork Council Communications Intern will be responsible for the following areas:


  • Will assist in communication with members, the media and consumers by writing press releases, developing graphics and using social media.

Producer Education:

  • Responsible for the support of programs and events that will increase member participation and awareness of Pork Checkoff programs. Will handle information requests concerning these programs and will promote programs through written communication, displays and presentations. Will develop materials for and update the Ohio Pork Council booth for the Ohio State Fair.

Ohio State Fair:

  • Will serve as assistant manager at the Ohio State Fair Pork Food Stands, which will entail handling funds, supervising staff and volunteers, and other general duties. Intern will also assist with promotion of the educational displays in the Land & Living Building and O’Neill Swine Barn, of which the intern will play a prominent role in the development and implementation.

  • Special Events Planning: Will assist in special events planning and volunteer recruitment for the Ohio State Fair Pork Rib-Off and other promotional events during the summer. Time Frame: May-August, Full-Time (40 hours per week). Compensation: $5,000 for the months of May-August in the form of bi-weekly salary or scholarship.

Knowledge of swine and modern agriculture is a plus, but not required. Applicants should have solid public speaking skills, excellent writing skills and be very organized.
