Certified Angus Beef ® brand 2021-’22 Internships – Producer Communications: Closes Dec. 1, 2020
The Certified Angus Beef ® (CAB®) brand is looking for students interested in the cattle industry and communications who want to gain experience with the world’s leading branded beef program. CAB’s year-round internship program develops the writing skills, storytelling talent and beef industry knowledge of its interns.
Tell the Certified Angus Beef brand story to stakeholders across the beef supply chain through news writing, photography, social media content and video scripts. Interns will be responsible for projects that help increase farmer/rancher brand awareness and inspire commitment to producing cattle that fit the world’s leading beef brand. Interns must be self-starters, highly accountable with a strong desire to write. Work may be completed from a remote location or the CAB headquarters in Wooster, Ohio. Some travel is required; school-term internships work with the intern’s class schedule. Prior to the internship, all selected interns may be asked to travel to the Ohio office for training opportunities. Other training will be in the field or via phone and frequent email.
Past interns have had a variety of career goals that require effective writing. This position offers valuable experience whether your target is print journalism, public relations or advertising copy writing. This internship is not a good opportunity for graphic design or consumer-focused communications experience.
Junior, senior or graduate level student majoring in agricultural communications and journalism, animal sciences and industry (communications option) or journalism.
Completed introductory courses in animal science and journalism (Introduction to Animal Science, News and Feature Writing I and II, Editing I, and Agriculture Magazine courses encouraged).
Demonstrate knowledge of cattle production and beef science concepts, and have a record of effectively communicating those concepts to producers, especially in writing. Samples of published works strongly preferred, with examples that tell stories by quoting sources.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient with Microsoft® Word
Superior writing and editing skills that connect with producers in their language
Works independently to meet deadlines and looks for next logical project
Effective verbal communication skills, used primarily with interviewing
Detailed organizational skills and follow-up
Experience in WordPress is preferred, but not required
Payment will be twice monthly, to approximate $12/hour stipend, plus approved business expenses that may arise.
