Communications Intern - Oklahoma Farm Bureau

Oklahoma Farm Bureau is Oklahoma’s largest general farm organization. Founded in 1942, OKFB is a grassroots organization that supports Oklahoma’s farm and ranch families through programs, political representation and public relations. OKFB is dedicated to supporting Oklahoma’s agriculture community through grassroots leadership and advocacy in all 77 Oklahoma counties.


Intern will provide technical and creative support in the Communications and Public Relations Division of Oklahoma Farm Bureau while gaining valuable workplace experience. This job requires the college course work equivalent to a junior in agricultural communications at Oklahoma State University.


A successful applicant should be familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Microsoft Office, basic digital photography and Apple’s MacOS operating system. The internship is located at Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s home office at 2501 North Stiles Avenue in Oklahoma City. At completion of the internship, the intern will receive a $5,000 scholarship, payable to their college or university.


Responsibilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Writing feature and news articles for the OKFB website; for Perspective, OKFB’s leadership newsletter; and for Oklahoma Country, OKFB’s membership magazine

  • Writing press releases

  • Assisting with social media management, including Facebook and Twitter

  • Taking and editing photographs for OKFB’s various publications and electronic platforms

  • Shooting and editing video for web distribution

  • Designing newsletters, brochures and advertising flyers

  • Assisting with management and updating of OKFB’s websites

  • Attend OKFB conferences and/or events to represent the organization while documenting and photographing member-driven activities

  • Assist with staffing in OKFB’s trade show exhibit booth at any appropriate event during the internship

  • Assist with general division activities including routing publications, preparing board reports and other duties as assigned by division vice president

Selected applicants will be interviewed before the intern is chosen. Applicants should be able to provide work samples of communications products they have created or developed during applicant interviews.


Selected applicants will be interviewed by OKFB communications staff after the application deadline has passed. Interviewed applicants will be asked to submit work samples during or after the interview to support their application.


The applicant’s résumé and cover letter should be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023.
