Communications Intern - IFDC

IFDC is an independent non-profit organization that combines innovative research, market systems development, and strategic partnerships to identify and scale sustainable soil solutions for improved food security and livelihoods around the world.

The ideal communications intern, being driven, attentive to detail, and ready to make real differences in the real world, brings critical thinking and creativity to developing content that matches the global standards of IFDC Communications. The responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Social media content development, management, and monitoring

  • Writing articles for the IFDC website or annual report, press releases, feature articles, success stories, profiles of IFDC projects and staff, etc.

  • Designing infographics, videos

  • Working with interns in other departments on inter-disciplinary projects

  • Conducting research, as needed

  • Editing various documents, as requested

  • Other projects as directed

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and graphic design

  • Experience in or working knowledge of organizational social media strategy and platforms

  • Prior experience in scholarly/scientific writing a plus

  • Proven proficiency in graphic design

  • Strong research and editing skills

  • Ability to multitask

  • Knowledge of proper grammar and writing techniques

  • Positive attitude, flexibility, exceptional work ethic and problem solving mentality

  • Applicants should have high attention to detail; be able to work as part of a team, but also be able to perform tasks independently; possess exceptional oral and written communication skills

Other Requirements:

  • Preferably current undergraduate juniors or seniors, or recent graduates in or have experience in English, journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, social media, or a related field

  • Minimum GPA requirement: 2.5 overall with at least a 2.75 in a related major

  • Must be able to make a semester commitment of 20 hrs/week

  • A portfolio of work is required for application
