Assistant Director of Communications – Oklahoma State University Foundation

Stillwater, OK • Full-Time • Bachelor's Degree Required


PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Assistant Director of Communications will help execute the Marketing and Communications department’s strategic goals of creating effective materials that inspire, solicit and steward donors. This position completes and/or contributes to important and ongoing editorial/development writing assignments. Projects will include publications, newsletters, news releases, public relations and media relations efforts, maintenance of content on the Intranet, print and digital advertising copy writing, and other general writing assignments. The position also plays a lead role in the strategy, creation and management of web and social media content. This person will regularly collaborate with internal departments and campus partners to achieve the goals identified for each project. This position works closely with the Senior Director of Communications to identify ways to publicize giving impact, key donors, events and messages through a variety of mediums.

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS:


General Writing and Media Relations:

  • Serve as the Foundation’s editor for its portion of STATE magazine, creating content, coordinating additional articles and visual components, and overseeing the completion and deadlines of each issue

  • In addition to STATE magazine, contribute copy for various other publications, including Foundation newsletters such as Women for OSU and the e-newsletter for the Foundation’s Board of Governors

  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Communications to strategically plan content to ensure messaging is aligned with Foundation and OSU priorities

  • Collaborate with designers, video producers and photographers to facilitate video interviews and/or photo shoots related to publications and design work required for each project

  • Assist with public relations/media relations outreach for news announcements and special events

  • Assist with internal communication efforts to staff, Board of Governors, key donors, etc., as needed

  • Contribute to the Foundation and Marketing and Communications team by participating in the execution and preparation of major events and initiatives, including involvement with Women for OSU, major gift announcements, specific campaigns, groundbreakings and other special projects. Duties may include writing speaking points, social media posts, sponsorship brochures, email communications, etc.

  • General assignments including, but not limited to, copy writing for digital and print advertising and writing and distributing various news releases

Website and Social Media Content Management:

  • Will work closely with the Senior Director of Communications and others to strategize and implement the Foundation’s overall digital content strategy

  • Oversees the daily operations, long-term strategy, campaigns and analytics for all of the Foundation’s social media channels, collaborating with additional staff and/or a social media intern to produce daily content

  • Collaborate with OSU Foundation internal partners to help implement online marketing/fundraising campaigns on all social and digital media platforms, including the annual Give Orange campaign

  • Work with multiple departments across the Foundation to define, track, analyze and report on digital communication metrics and analytics, with the goal of improving the online user experience and better targeting digital audiences

  • Help develop and implement strategies for social media and identify new communities and technologies for marketing efforts both at the OSU Foundation and with our campus partners

  • Work closely with communication departments across campus and the central OSU Brand Management office to share general online content and digital strategies

  • Collaborate with designers, video producers and photographers to create and deploy social media graphics, images and multi-media components

  • Website content creation as assigned
